A lone gunman came in the guise of a patient to Dr Chumphol Clinic on Saturday and shot dead the clinic's owner, Dr Chumphol Decha-Umphai.

The alleged crime took place at 11am. Dr Chumphol is also the director of King Mongkut Memorial Hospital in the province.

The clinic is located on Mattayawong Road in Phetchaburi’s Muang district.

“Preliminary investigation showed that the suspect, who is male, aged around 30 years, shot Dr Chumphol multiple times after receiving a checkup from him before driving away in a car,” said Phetchaburi police chief Pol Maj-General Uthai Kawindechathorn.

Matichon newspaper reported that officials have identified the suspect and are securing an arrest warrant.

Thailand has never struck me as a place where a patient could obtain relief in court for malpractice.  I'm sort of surprised we don't hear of more events like this.  It would be interesting to know what caused the kid to lose it.  We'll probably never know for sure.
Unfortunate.  RIP.

Such a sad  event especially if it comes down to being  a  case of  shooting the messenger of  bad news.

Is it  just  a new era of  reporting or is it that Thailand is  openly starting to suffer an increase in  social demise presenting as murderous  retaliation for self possessed petty justifications? Too many  crack heads?

The checkup didn't reveal a gun but maybe revealed a gambling debt would be my guess ????Rip

We have absolutely no knowledge as to the reason, could be anything from a steep bill to a bad diagnosis to a jilted lover, who knows, no one at this stage.

Maybe the bill was padded too much?

I too have always wondered about that here in Thailand. Not sure of other Countries, such as America, but in U.K. ...........

"Even if you are innocent, the police may arrest you if they have reasonable grounds to suspect that you have committed an offence., and can hold you for 24 hours."

For all we know the Director was fornicating with the mans wife.  Nothing to speculate, more desperate and violent times are ahead.

My (Thai) wife mentioned that there was some kind of amorous kerfuffle here.
