Thai police to reduce number of alcohol breath tests over New Year

 

 

Thai police will reduce the amount of alcohol breath tests performed at roadside checkpoints during the New Year holidays.

 

Speaking on Friday, national police chief Suwat Jangyodsuk said the measure was necessary in order to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. 

 

However, police across the country would continue to breath-test drivers and riders who were pulled over by officers and where impairment was suspected, he said.

 

The police chief said that people may not feel comfortable with having to perform a breath test during the current pandemic, adding  that  he did not believe the reduction on breath testing would negatively impact the police’s role in trying to prevent road traffic accidents during the holiday season. 

 

Meanwhile, Naewna reported that 5,000 CCTV cameras have been installed in Bangkok in order to help fight crime.

Yeah, let people drink themselves senseless and then drive, killing themselves and others.

If you kill off the population you get the benefit of stopping the spread of the virus.

Why didn't they think of this approach before.

The police chief is an imbecile. The odds of catching Covid-19 while giving a breath test must be almost non existent (assuming Covid procedures followed - masks, gloves,visors etc.). Then the chances of dying from Covid due to a breath test are probably zero. Contrast the chances of a drunk driver injuring or killing themself or innocent people as extremely high with tragic consequences. The police deserve all the regard and respect they get for this nonsense.

Anyone who chooses to drink and drive is breaking the law and therefore is a criminal and if caught, should be treated as such.

Exactly how is this good news.  This means they either arrest them without the test being done roadside and take them to a hospital for a blood test, or they just let more drunks roll on down the road causing more deaths.  These guys just do not learn...

As so often the case in Thailand its extremely unfortunate that those in positions of decision making power are so extremely shortsighted while of the fundamentals flawed belief they are doing the right thing. The nature of ‘KraengJai’ prevents intelligent juniors from highlighting what fundamental blunders their bosses are making. As a consequence only those who play the system and remain dumbed down success through the senior ranks. 

 

A highly flawed system and one which leads to such moronic policies.

What about other sobriety tests, walking  toe to heel in a straight line,

follow the officers finger,must be more, doing less breathalyzer tests

is not a good idea...drunks must be kept off the roads,it's bad enough

when drivers are sober.
