PHUKET: Phuket Provincial Police have arrested two teenagers found in possession of more than 200 kilograms of kratom leaves.

Phuket native Nontharit ‘Nice’ Ketchart, 19, and Suwimol ‘Palm’ Mayu, 18, originally from Nongkhai, were arrested at Baan Bang Duk Pier in Mai Khao early Wednesday morning (Dec 30), reported Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Pornsak Nuannoo.

The couple were arrested at about 3:30am after officers led by Maj Phirasit Noophayan moved in during a police operation, Maj Gen Pornsak explained.

Really dont know why they arrested them, as i saw on many occasions, Thailand doesnt consider kratom anymore as a drug. Is it then a government scheme? It just doesnt add up. Police doesnt know? Sure thing is, i dont know

Perhaps (and I stress "perhaps") they are "making an example" ... Big Pharma rule the world now, and cannot have any presentation of alternative pain medication (or anything else alternative for that matter)

Yes I also seem to recall that Kratom was no longer classified as a drug. Bit strange.

Years ago, my hotel manager used to boil it up in the hotel kitchen at night and partake of it.  The TripAdvisor review from 2 young Chinese female guests who were chased through the nearby woods by him with a loaded gun, when high on kratom, made interesting reading.....

They're making an example of them because unlicenced possession/distribution of kratom is illegal, just as recreational use still is.

It's still on the Schedule 5 list of narcotic substances.   It's proposed removal has not yet been approved by the Council of State or Parliament.

Is is crazy just like that as they forbid kratom in 1943 for only ECONOMICAL reasons.

Thailand was one of the 9 countries forbidding it.

Even in Indonesia it is not forbidden and that is a muslim country  They are even selling !!

It isn't illegal (yet) in the US.  I've had it and it works moderately well for pain, especially when combined with paracetamol.  It's about as effective as tramadol but without the sedative effect.  It's no where near as effective as oxycodone.  It's dirty though as it feels to me like it affects more than just opioid receptors.
