Samut Prakan: Province that neighbors Bangkok up to highest level of Covid restrictions

Samut Prakan province - to the south east of the Thai capital Bangkok - is now under similar restrictions placed on five high risk provinces last week.

Sanook reported there had been eight new cases of Covid-19 bringing the total in Samut Prakan to 269 with 246 still undergoing treatment.

A letter from governor Wanchai Khongkasem indicated that people will now only be able to travel in and out of the province if absolutely necessary to do so.

As with the other five provinces named - Samut Sakhon, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trad - people will need documents showing permission to travel.

Police and health and protection agencies will be manning checkpoints on main roads.

Minor roads will see protection agencies plus local officials like kamnans and phu yai ban in charge.

The new level of restrictions mean that the entire eastern seaboard from outer Bangkok to the Cambodian border is now under travel restrictions and top tier measures.

Just don't call it a lockdown whatever you do!Also don't call it a second wave because we don't do lockdowns or second waves. We only do success.

Samut Prakan is not just south east, also south west of Bkk on the other side of the river

How will this be policed? Crossing Bangna Trat Road to visit Mega Bangna from Bangkok, or taking the BTS across the province line?

So people landing at Suvarnabhumi or leaving an ASQ hotel in Samut Prakan will need a special document to go into Bangkok?

Sorry did I read that right? Eight new cases and they shut the province down? Eight?

Who is right here ? Samut Prakan no road blocks today, nor have there been any coming out of Pattaya for the last week as  reported on here.

If they do not stop the flow into Bangkok  the battle will be lost.

Lost, nothing is ever lost, misplaced maybe, and the numbers will be shortly that sooner rather than later.  Misplaced down to zero, and success will be reported with great fanfare, a marching army band and fireworks to celebrate.  Getting the fattened calf all ready for the slaughter and feast.

I'm sure there are lots of interconnecting back sois that one could travel from Bang Na Trat road up towards Rama IX park that will not be checked.  There are foot paths/bridges over the klong that separates Bangkok and Samut Prakan in numerous places.

I live in Bangkok, and work in Samut Prakarn. Have not seen any sign of road blocks, checks etc. Wonder there they are.
