YouTube suspends Trump's channel after violating policy on inciting violence

(Reuters) - Alphabet Inc's YouTube said on Tuesday it has suspended Donald Trump's channel as it violated policies for inciting violence after last week's assault on the U.S. Capitol by the president's supporters.

 

Online platforms and social media companies are distancing themselves from, and taking action against, those that encouraged or engaged in the violence in Washington, DC.

 

Trump's channel is now prevented from uploading new videos or livestreams for a minimum of seven days, which may be extended, Youtube said in a statement.

 

The company has also indefinitely disabled comments under videos on the channel.

 

The suspension of Trump's channel came after comments that he made at a news conference, which was streamed on the platform on Tuesday morning, the company said.

 

Youtube's action against the president comes after U.S. civil rights groups told Reuters that they were set to organize an advertiser boycott against the company if it does not remove Trump's channel.

 

Supporters of Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, trying to halt the certification by Congress of President-elect Joe Biden's election win.

 

Trump, who has challenged the validity of Biden's victory without producing evidence, initially praised his supporters but later condemned the violence.

 

Lawmakers were forced to flee as the building was mobbed by protesters who overwhelmed security forces. Five people died in the violence, including one Capitol Police officer.

 

After the incident, Twitter and Facebook removed Trump's accounts and have been eliminating content supporting last week's assault, while Amazon.com Inc suspended Parler, a social media platform favored by many supporters of Trump, from its web hosting service.

Twitter and so forth but that's not to bad, the worse is the PGA removing it's tournament from Trump golf course, even worse is Deutsche Bank stopping all business with Trump organization (400 million USD to be paid by April) and the top of the top for his troubles , his personal bank , Signature, asking him to resign and to remove all his accounts from their institution, that's enough for a huge head ache  or worse 555

I read somewhere that impeachment will remove all his benefits, including the pension and secret service protection provided to former Presidents.  I'm not certain of this.

My understanding about that is that it's unclear whether that would really be the case.

But anyway its truly glorious that consequences, indeed very major consequences, are finally happening against this horrible president and horrible human being.

 

I was unsure if that was ever going to happen. 

 

But it is now an avalanche.

 

The beauty part is that this is all his fault. If he had behaved properly after losing the election he might have coasted without consequences for the rest of his life.

Pension, travel, health benefits etc (not protection detail) but ... he has to be convicted in the Senate before he leaves office.

I read that he would lose the Secret Service protection as well.. If convicted. Having already left office does not seem to affect these penalties.

 

Cast into the wilderness. His security not the Government's problem anymore.. Although I have to admit that seems like it could be counter-productive, given his access to sensitive information in his previous incarnation.

 

On the other hand, since there are numerous reports he never read security briefings , he's probably safe enough..

The security detail actually comes under separate legislation (I posted links to 3 different sources earlier over in the impeached thread as I was curious). If he leaves office (on the 20th or resigning before hand) the pension, travel, health cover etc. don't get stripped.

 

To be honest, stripping an ex President regardless of who he is wouldn't be a good idea, security as you mentioned but also kudos for a terrorist group taking him out.

Although there were thousands of instances of obnoxious behavior, dishonorable statements, constant lies and fabrication, and betrayals of his nation, the DC riots were a final excuse for many Republicans to jump off a sinking ship, that was engulfed in flames. Many would insist he crossed the line, but I can cite a hundred other instances where he crossed the line, though likely not as heinous, nor as fatal. 

 

I was hoping that three years ago, Twitter and Facebook would have the courage to ban him from the misuse of their platforms. Finally they did, and although I am no fan of censorship, it was needed to save what was left of the republic. 

 

Trump is a man of deceit, foul play, a traitor to his nation, and a man so lacking in compassion, character, allegiance, loyalty, kindness, generosity, fidelity, heart and soul. He is morally bankrupt. His ex associates know that. The thousands of small contractors who have sued him for money owed know that. There is no doubt that Trump is the opposite of a patriot, there is no doubt that Trump is a coward and a traitor, who will sell out his nation to despotic dictators, and who will deny aid to faithful allies. Thankfully we have just a week left of this nonsense and then he will be in gloriously ushered out of Washington to a life of humiliation, a completely radioactive name that nobody in their right mind is ever going to want to touch, and a crumbling mini empire. That is just what he deserves, that is what he's worked hard for and that is something that the world will celebrate. There is no honor in his game. Only the most ardent supporters of this man will continue to defend him in the face of these accusations. They are totally in character with who the man is and virtually everything we know about him. They are in character with many statements that he's made about John McCain who was a genuine American hero, and quite a few other generals and military Intelligence people, who have worked for him.

 

Trump is not a decent American. Tillerson, Sessions, Barr, General Kelly, and now Pence, McConnell, and countless other know. Some cannot see it, even now. This is a man who dodged the draft on five occasions, did everything in his power to avoid serving his nation at a time his nation asked for his service, and out of a sense of embarrassment, shame or just pure hubris, he continues to insult, demean, and lack support for the men and women who put themselves in harm's way, to protect the nation. He claimed to be a law and order president, but only when it served him and his followers.
