Thailand says on track to use Sinovac vaccine, despite trial data

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand on Wednesday said it was still on track to receive and administer a coronavirus vaccine by China's Sinovac Biotech starting next month, despite data from a Brazil trial that showed 50.4% efficiency, health officials said.

"There is no impact on our plan right now," Supakit Sirilak, Director-General of Medical Science Department, told a briefing when asked about Brazil's data.

"We are asking for information directly from Sinovac, so we are waiting for their response to get all the facts," he said.

Thailand, which has reported a total of 10,991 infections and 67 fatalities since it detected its first case a year ago, has ordered 2 million doses of Sinovac's CoronaVac and expects to receive the first 200,000 doses next month.

It has also ordered 61 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which will be produced by local firm, Siam Bioscience for domestic use and export.

The Brazil trial findings came just as Indonesia started a massive coronavirus vaccination campaigns, with its president the first to be inoculated with CoronaVac

Malaysia on Wednesday said it would only go ahead with procurement of Sinovac's vaccine if it satisfies the safety and efficacy standards of local regulators.

Thailand's Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday said it was assessing all vaccines based on quality, safety and efficiency.

"The companies requesting approval must provide information that addresses all these points," FDA Deputy Secretary-General Surachoke Tangwiwat said.

Thailand received requests on Tuesday for vaccine registration from AstraZeneca and Sinovac.

Says in the daily mail today it's only 50% effective, the worst of the lot by a long way

Of course.  Multiple parties say it is only 50-60% efficient, so the communists need to be consulted.

After taking the vaccine nobody got seriously ill or died.

That's as impressive as the other three.

It would also tick boxes that some of the others don't.

I'm no doctor, but that seems a little low.

Thing is there's so many becoming available it'll be a job knowing the dodgy ones from the good stuff ..

I reckon they should put food dye in them to help the public make their choice like red for the iffy ones , blue for the ones you gotta keep in the fridge and green for the proper gear ..

I went to the hospital today for my prostrate issue ???? my doc was talking about this and said he would not go near this vaccine as it also has a huge list of problems as well as low efficiency.  The WHO consider vaccine versions delivering 50%+ to be viable.    .

The BBC has been on this all day ,this Chinese vaccsin is only  50%  effective ,which you could say is about right ,as we have been told vaccines normal take years to research ,test and then produce ,

All these  vaccines have been researched, tested ? and produced in a matter of a few months, they were bound to be a few problems ,lets wait and see when all the other vaccines  are used on mass over the next few months .

Give 2 doses ????  555

Are we going to hear about the vaccine every day until it happens as some sort of distraction from the lack of testing?

We know. You don't have to remind us every day that you have 2million doses of the Chinese vaccine...well, 800,000 supposedly in February...

That makes it 50% more effective than the GT200 bomb detector they bought a few years ago, so they're actually getting better at this ????

  • Popular Post

“We’re going to use it anyway.”

This is giving me GT200 bomb detector vibes

not sure why the cynical replies.

two million vaccines were ordered at the time the data showed very good results. new results say just above 50% effective, according to the WHO still viable.

besides these mere two million vaccines, another whopping  61 million vaccines have been ordered at astrozennica, these are much better.

so all i all Thailand keeps on doing a great job in managing the crisis. a little bit better than the usa with well over 4000 DAILY DEATHS.

Thais must appease their Chinese masters. Obviously.

50% is a disappointing headline numberand I can understand the reaction of many but the real story is the success rate at preventing severe covid where it appears to score highly.

Remember fighting this virus is all about avoiding extreme cases and reducing hospitalisation.

If the vaccine does this safely it's a success

AZ is only 62% effective at stopping infection according to its main trials but scores at nearly 100% in preventing severe covid.

As an aside the polio vaccines don't prevent polio they just limit the impact and our body fights off the germ with its normal immune system.

If they paid me 100,000 b ++, I would not take this Chinese vaccine.

No way no how.

well I wish them luck getting data out of the Chinese, they have less than open with their data and not too happy that Brazil has released the 50% figure. But in Thailand money will talk and you will be able to buy whichever one you want.....or can afford ????

here in brief is your shopping list

1. Direct from China for those on the bread line (mainly residing in Pattaya) and retailing at only 5000 thb will be available in 7/11 and injected by the token lady-boy. You will get a complementary slushie (the blue one).

2. For those with a bit more money in the bank living in Phuket at 10 000 a shot you will be administered the Australian Zenica shot and will get a complimentary wai providing you arrive at the clinic by Tuk Tuk.

3. For the scandies residing in Hua Hin at only 15 000 a shot the Pfizer jab will be administered at a private hotel during a deep tissue massage with happy ending , bunch of flowers will be presented as your chauffer driven merc drives you off

4. As usual the Northerners will be left to fight it out for the scraps.

Meanwhile in a article today China has shutdown some cities because of Covid19. Obviously vaccine not working too well and these clowns who pretend to know what their doing expect us minions just to fall in line and except what they say, no wonder the youth of Thailand are rising up

This is probably because back when every other country was getting in line putting in orders with name brands Thailand's lack of government was talking about Moon Shots as a way to line their expenses ????

Now nothing else is available for the year 2021 so they will buy the cheap untested poor track record stuff

Oh but no worries they themselves will not be taking this rot gut ....they will be buying name brand vaccines from the private hospitals they recently gave permission to import

No the cheap stuff will be reserved for Thailand's working class....All the farmers etc who are the heart & backbone of Thailand will receive this stuff

Frankly, I’m surprised.  I thought the country that infected the world with COVID-19 would have the knowledge and technology to make the best vaccine.  It’s their virus, you know.
