Playing catch up is nice as a research training and learning tool but that's all it is.

If they want to something to work on which could really put them at the forefront of technology in the future then they should research new vaccine vectors that have never bee tried before.

For example, there's a team at Oxford University which have been working on something called ChAdOx1 for many years, it began life as an Ebola vaccine based on a Chimp Adenovirus.

This process is something that's been ongoing for the last 30 years or so.

This ChAdOx1 is the basis for the AstraZeneca COVID Vaccine, the Chimp Adenovirus being the vector which carries  the modified viral genetic material into the body so the immune system can recognise it (the COVID spike) and build immunity against it, this provides an almost instant and effective immune response on future exposure.

Once ChAdOx has been used on a truly massive scale worldwide then additional vectors will likely be needed (there are quite a few of them and will be 1000's of potential candidates out there) as the immune system will attack the ChAdOx delivery system before it gets a chance to do its job in a different version - how badly this will effect future vaccines it is not known yet and they're already working on future generations of virus delivery systems and have been for many years already.

The CanSino Chinese vaccine uses a known and widely recognised human adenovirus vector named Ad5 which is just one of the 100's of viruses that causes a 'common cold' - not really the best choice as many people have immune systems which will attack and destroy this as soon as it's injected - merely because they've had it before where nobody in the world has had the Chimp Virus before.

This is why using the Chimp Adenovirus which has never been seen in humans before the Oxford vaccine came on the scene is a much better idea and will achieve far more (90%+) than the apparent 50% efficacy of the Chinese vaccine.

This is the kind of thing they should be working on - new vaccine delivery systems. I note that the Chinese are now working on their own Chimp Adenovirus vaccines as announced last month - I wonder where they got that idea from ????

If they have one ready to use when the world really needs it then the entire world will be beating a path to their doorstep just like what's happening with Oxford / AstraZeneca right and a handful of other companies / research institutes right now.

Research takes decades and requires large amounts of funding, perhaps they would be better off working on the DRACO antiviral which was abandoned due to complete lack of funding some years ago.

Silly boy. It's bleach. Injected, as per the recommendation of one world leader (errrmm, ex-leader).

I might have to buy some. I can't find full strength bleach anywhere in the stores. I guess the idea is that it's too dangerous.

I would suggest they stock it in the stores right next to the benign potassium hydroxide that's readily available in plastic bags and will dissolve flesh and bones rather quickly.

Why all this pussy-footing around, maybe have some trials in April?

They can have the license for the AZ vax now. They have pharmaceutical producing plants in the country. They should be mass producing the AZ now and mass immunizing every Thai and foreigner who wants to be vaccinated.

A friend who is well connected says that the new Thai vaccine for Covid-19 is based on extract of shrimp. Rumour is that it has microscopic amount of lemongrass and Thai chillies too. Shipments are expected to start in Samut Sakhon.

I bet it burns like hell when you're injected.  But chase the injection with a couple of Changs and all will be well.

You would think they could just borrow the formula for AstraZeneca from India or find it on the internet somewhere?

I realize that pharmacies need to make money but in this case, of a world pandemic, patents should be off!

They will crib it from somewhere and of course lay claim to it from the hub of vaccines

For interest the pharma. facility paid for by the previous King is supposedly world class, the reason that Oxford university has entered into a manufacturing agreement with them, to manufacture for the local market and supply to SE Asia.

Not really necessary is it, a few cases here and there.

Until they reopen of course; while the rest of the world is protected ole Thighland gets royally COVID'd.

Fits to the idea:

THAILANDThai tourism operators want to offer vaccination-inclusive packages

Assume when testing been completed manufacture will commence?

Yes I am sure they would not consider using a "substitute vaccine which is less costly, and damn the consequences.

I would not trust a tour operator to be ethical over a vaccine, when truth often does not enter into their business plan.

Based on the Thai Covid test that was due to come out late March 2020 I have a feeling we will never see the Thai vaccine.

Cheers

Is that right? - - tour operators and used car salesmen have the same high standard of ethics ????
