Very true. All down to money of course.

Why are the names withheld?

She's been caught red handed and admitted to it, stands to reason that her name should be revealed.

The politician husband should be jailed too, you can't honestly believe he knows nothing about it

Agreed, but they are usually the media - not the arresting officers

She probably didn't realise the extra people was in the car with her. An easy mistake to make

They really don't give a **** do they.

Lock them all in a room with the virus and leave them to rot as punishment.

It's all about ££££.

It was all a mistake, they left their work visa back home and forgot to tell the driver.

Just giving them a ride as good citizen.

The first involved the arrest of the wife of a well known politician in Sangkhaburi district - that borders Myanmar.

Time the west acted to put Thailand back at the highest level on the condemned list for people trafficking.

Thailand only acts when it is publicly humiliated.
Left alone to clean up it's own back yard nothing ever gets done.

Plus, if the foreign press publish the details more, it might in some way make those guilty realise their names can be publicised with no defamation  law to hide behind.

What's that thing in the boot of the car ?

That is a very good question! That thing is utterly unidentifiable.

It looks like half shark head, half patong-go breakfast dough ????

I bet there'e a few small business owners would like to get their hands around her neck

So lets see if the courts follow through with Prayuts promise of jail-time for smugglers... or she gets off with a fine which they can obviously pay easily?

I beg to differ Richard . Police officers are in the front line and have to make a decision who should be arrested and then it is up to a prosecutor to proceed with the case or not . The media is going by what the police and prosecutors have to say when it comes to guilt . Yet often the media does make a stand often on there opinion of who is guilty or innocent .

Should she or anyone else of Thai nationality be found guilty of people smuggling their passport should be immediately cancelled , and they should be banned from holding another one

Notification of calls does not show content of calls, irrespective of time or location of where originated.

This will probably end up like the smuggling of illegals from Burma into Thailand for a price which had a lot to do with the present pandemic, the unelected "PM" was supposed to be looking into it but has never disclosed any findings.

The fact that it was the wife of a politician (was it a real politician or one of the unelected "PM"s soldiers?) probably means we will not hear anything about the outcome.

This is unbelievable!  Its staggering!  Its absolutely implausible!  How the hell did she not get away with this obvious 'misunderstanding'??    ????

What has the unelected "PM" got to say about this? "Oh I will look into it" brown envelope collected then nothing more said.

It would be interesting to know whether it was a real politician or a soldier. :cheesy:

She has a gems business and a tourism business in Myanmar.

I wonder if she's been border hopping for a while with business in Myanmar and closed borders????

Maybe a very helpful official has allowed her to cross & return for a fee, which she covered with a few stowaways in the back.

May I suggest a mandatory 20 year prison sentence, for anyone caught having anything to do with the smuggling of migrants, from a country with a high rate of infections, during this pandemic. Even with no prior record. These are exceptional circumstances which call for courage, bravery, and integrity on the part of the judiciary here, if that is possible. Connected or not. Wealthy or not.

This is just plain old dumb behavior. Did she have testing kits in the car? Are there any lines that a connected person cannot step over here, with utmost confidence of total impunity?

Thailand's ridiculous criminal defamation laws are a major hindrance when it comes to real journalism.

Yep, doing exactly what they're designed to do...
