China to conduct military drills in S. China Sea amid tensions with U.S

BEIJING (Reuters) - China said on Tuesday it will conduct military exercises in the South China Sea this week, just days after Beijing bristled at a U.S. aircraft carrier group's entry into the disputed waters.

 

A notice issued by the country's Maritime Safety Administration prohibited entry into a portion of waters in the Gulf of Tonkin to the west of the Leizhou peninsula in southwestern China from Jan. 27 to Jan. 30, but it did not offer details on when the drills would take place or at what scale.

 

A U.S. carrier group led by the USS Theodore Roosevelt entered the South China Sea on Saturday to promote "freedom of the seas," the U.S. military said, days after Joe Biden began his term as president.

 

The contested waters have become another flashpoint in the increasingly testy bilateral relationship between Beijing and Washington. The U.S. military has steadily increased its activities there in recent years as China asserts its territorial claims in the area in conflict with neighbouring countries including Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei and Taiwan.

 

The announcement of the drills in the Gulf of Tonkin, just east of Vietnam, came as the Southeast Asian country opened a key Communist Party congress in Hanoi.

 

China on Monday complained that the United States frequently sends aircraft and vessels into the South China Sea, through which trillion dollars in trade flow every year, to "flex its muscles" and said such actions are not conducive to peace and stability in the region.

Turn the Roosevelt and her escorts around just to (observe )the Chinese and it would be nice to have a few nato ships as well show the flag so to speak 

the waters are not disputed under international law and the recent ruling of the UN in the hague on the land/island grabs back that law too,whats disputed is the chinese invasion in any legal form.no ones broken int law except china,submit your query to the hague.

If that’s what China wants, sure.

USA the one we look to for aid and help in retaining global freedom and opposition to communist threats , however under Biden I am curious to see his tactics and strengths . Trump did not fool around , you do not mess with Trump but Biden , who knows ?

But on a less serious not; Steve Bannon has openly voiced that the US should confront the Chinese, in the South China Sea, and insist they get off  'their' islands. Or else, the US navy will get you off!!

What utter rubbish! What did Trump do while the Chinese developed military bases on the stolen islands in the SCS. Trump did more damage to USA than he did anywhere else!

So how much longer is the inevitable world vs China war going to held off for? If the Chinese keep playing games like this, they're going to lose, and lose HARD.

 

What allies do they have? They've pis=ed off virtually every neighbor they have by claiming large sawthes of territory that are no-where near China. Building islands, sinking other nations fishing / exploration boats. Today they passed a law that allows the coast guard to fire on foreign vessels in seas 'claimed by China' - including disputed territory. They have ignored the international court of the seas ruling that went against China's baseless claims to the ocean - and yet they claim to want the west to follow the law? Please.

 

It's high time the world stood up to Chinese BS. UK/US & EU maritime boats should be patrolling every day in these seas. That'll pi-s them off. See how long they can fight for when the world is against them. See how long they'll last when countries move their manufacturing and purchases to more democratically friendly countries. Enough is enough. Thanks for covid China, your greatest export to date. Soon, it'll be payback time.

you make some relevant points,but u wanna sink chinas ship,real easy but big biz is the problem ,take the factories out of china along with the  tek and dont buy china made products.they cant do anything with no money,and we all know how much the chinese like money,no wars no anything like that is necessary and at the same time bill em for covid
