So you both agree he was acquitted. Good.

What say we make a deal:  We agree Trump was legitimately acquitted and Trump fans agree Biden was legitimately elected.

If you like you can point out that a large minority voted for Trump, but we will point out that a significant majority voted to convict Trump.

Even McConnell admits the former president is guilty of the crimes, but voted for acquittal on a technicality.

On a technicality he made.

Not successfully, no.

Yes he was successfully impeached twice. They voted on it and were successful.

So, the impeachment and removal process of the Constitution has failed yet again as it has failed on every occasion in the past.  Hardly surprising.  In any other kind of trial the most important factor for insuring fairness is empaneling jurors who do not have a material interest in the outcome and may therefore live up to their oaths of impartiality.  Unfortunately, the jury (actually, the judges) the Framers chose are guaranteed to have the highest degree of direct, political interest in the decision they make.  It's therefore naive to expect the senators scrupulously to subordinate their self-interest in favor of the national interest.  And yet the tedious handwringing when they vote along party line is the same every time.   What is the line about the definition of insanity being repeating the same behavior and expecting a different outcome?

Any system can work if it is populated by heroes and saints, but the world has few heroes and no saints at all.
