House Democrats ask Trump to testify at his impeachment trial

To the President, something felt amiss. “It was all very, very strange,” Trump said on Dec. 2. “Within days after the election, we witnessed an orchestrated effort to anoint the winner, even while many key states were still being counted.”

In a way, Trump was right.

There was a conspiracy unfolding behind the scenes, one that both curtailed the protests and coordinated the resistance from CEOs.

Emphatic conclusion of the article that Trump’s corrupt attack on democracy failed and people’s power and democracy prevailed. Thanks for the link.

Great stuff .. if it's a Bible he has to swear on can we expect a bolt of lightning straight through the ceiling from the Lord above vapourising him with nothing left but smouldering shoe soles ..

  • Senators have no power to rule on constitutionality. I assume you knew that already because its so basic.

The Constitution Article I...gives the Senate the “Power to try all Impeachments,” says the remedy for conviction “shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold” federal office...Article II, says, “The President...shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.” To some, that language means that the Senate may not try a former official, who, by definition, cannot be removed from office. The constitutional scholars Bruce Ackerman and Gerard Magliocca wrote last month in the Washington Post that “the Constitution envisions impeachment only as a tool for proceeding against a president while he remains in office,” because impeachment’s purpose is removal, not punishment. https://www.newyorker.com/news/our-columnists/the-risks-of-trumps-impeachment-trial

I have long wondered why people support Trump and have come to the conclusion they fall into one of two categories....

1. They are highly intelligent, but staggeringly selfish, hitching themselves to the Trump banned-wagon in the hope of gaining  power, prospering financially...whatever.

2. They are stupid.

Anyone with two brain cells left to rub together knows NO self-proclaimed king with the nuclear codes should be allowed to run around unchecked the last few months, or weeks, or days, or even minutes of his presidency.

Unconstitutional, but no surprise as the whole thing has been declared unconstitutional by 45 Senators, thus a conviction is impossible.  Also, Trump's lawyers have said he will not testify.

:coffee1:

45 Senators from how many? Certainly not a majority of elected representatives.

He would not be able to recall what he said, and if he opened his mouth he would possibly be hanged be his own tongue, arrogance and conciet.

There are over 30,000 documented lies on record so far, so few more will make no difference to his unenviable record.

I wouldn't be surprised if Trump just ignores the whole thing and makes a point of taking a vacation at the time.

Somewhere with no extradition treaty I guess.

The manner in which Jared K drew up the documents governing the donated funds for trump allows him to use the money for any purpose his evil heart desires, and of course being a narcissist the most important thing is HIM HIM HIM.

He was always a scam artist so no surprises there.

And the next line of your link says

"The handshake between business and labor was just one component of a vast, cross-partisan campaign to protect the election–an extraordinary shadow effort dedicated not to winning the vote but to ensuring it would be free and fair, credible and uncorrupted. ".

It takes a "special sort" of individual to support someone like trump and another poster suggested that there were 2 reasons why people supported him; one being that they were selfish and narcissistic and wanted to enrich themselves by association, and the other being that they are stupid.

Up to you as the saying goes.

I also hope he starts another party and fully expect him to do so. THAT will be the end of the GOP and good riddance to bad rubbish.

They don't have the required two brain cells to rub together, create a spark, and engage critical thinking. Fox/Newsmax/OAN tell them what to think.

From the Time magazine article:

"Their work touched every aspect of the election. They got states to change voting systems and laws and helped secure hundreds of millions in public and private funding. They fended off voter-suppression lawsuits, recruited armies of poll workers and got millions of people to vote by mail for the first time. They successfully pressured social media companies to take a harder line against disinformation and used data-driven strategies to fight viral smears."

Yes, a lot of work went into insuring that legal voters could vote safely during the pandemic.  It worked, it was the largest voter turnout ever, and the cleanest election ever.

Only people who are opposed to democracy would object to the above efforts and the results.

Part of the above is just about informing the public. Other parts are about dealing with the pandemic. The democrats worked hard legally to win and did. Is there a part there that says that legal votes were not counted or illegal votes were  counted.

You may be reading other  things into the first part you  highlighted but the main example, in Pennsylvania, involved laws changed with Republican approval.

I would see many make claims in the media about the election methods and about Dominion voting machines and other companies and wonder how those people could get away with it. It appears you can't - many are now being taken to task and sued for their mistruths and lies. Lou Dobbs just got sacked. Cool.

Conclusion from the article is that they managed to make it a fair and honest election. So job well done.

Tens of millions would fall on their SWORDS for this scam artist. I fully expect him to start the Patriot party, and as Martha Stewart says, "That's a GOOD thing!"

But all this was done in the open and most of it consisted of measures taken in response to the pandemic. Is this your idea of a conspiracy?

Read the article.  Comment on the contents.  Not on me.

But getting Never-Trumpers to read anything that conflicts with their narrative is a real challenge.  Gotta give that cabal credit for a job well done there.  That reference is explained in the article.  Read it.  Comment on it.
