It doesn't matter why you issue a new passport and how long a validity it still has - to replace a lost or damaged one, to replace one with no or not enough blank pages for visas or whatever - the new passport has a validity of 10 years (some countries less, never seen one with more) I confirm that when my last passport was issued it had the residual months included; 29.01.18 till 29.08.28. Whether this has changed since 2018 I do not know. As to the OP personally I would compile the the papet work proving that you applied 3 months ago for the passport, copies of emails to the embassy, a time line including the date of the visit to immingration and what was said. And copies of hospital documents. I would want to show that everything that was possible was done to get the passport. 1

Yes, there was a policy change in September 2018 that UK passports could only be issued for a maximum of 10 years. As you say, prior to that any unexpired period on the old passport, up to a maximum of 9 months could be added to the new passport. I travelled a lot during my working life and, even with 2 valid UK passports I was renewing them every 4/5 years and gaining the maximum 9 month extension each time. That being caused by the sad replacement of the jumbo 94 pager back in the mid 90's, by the current puny '48 pager'. 1

Although UK jumbo passports are no longer available you can get 10 year passports. 1

Yup, I was always getting the bigger 10 year (plus a bit) UK passports after the big blue jumbos were phased out in the 90's. The new 48 pagers (even having 2 of them) never lasted me the 10 years before they were full and had to renew them, but with the extra 9 months validity.

You can apply for a extension of stay up to 30 days early or 45 days at some offices.

At CW I have renewed even earlier, as I had to leave earlier for an operation and they move the following years expiry date to an earlier date. Applying 30/45 days earlier you retain the 12 month expiry date, applying 60 days earlier the expiry date changes and you get, for example, 11 months instead of 12. I explained my reasons for having to leave, signed a form. They say no if they think you are asking for 12 months from the previous expiry date but if they understand you are asking for 12 months from when you apply it doesn't seem to be a problem. Anyway I would check beforehand.
Rawairat Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 I am in a similar situation, been waiting 2 months for a new passport and the agent I went through assured me it would arrive in time. He’s gone quiet now, haven’t had a reply from my last email. I am hoping immigration will be sympathetic as I am on a guardian visa which is due this week

Popular Post VinnieK Posted February 10, 2021 Author Popular Post Posted February 10, 2021 I'm back guys Two hectic days...phew Passport arrived 2 days ago..had to dash to BKK and yesterday went to immigration Everything went smoothly I extended my non-O (ret) for another year after I paid my one week overstay I did the full one-year extension with all the paperwork etc I was thinking they might give me the 'missing' months from my previous extension but they went for a completely new one To anyone who has a similar problem.. I understand they are more relaxed due to Covid etc That applies to immigration raids and such Also...for all of us on the more 'serious' visas they are more considerate (age, money in the bank, family etc) Thanks to everyone who replied. 1 1 1
