Eight-step vaccination process worked out by Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute

Thailand’s public health ministry’s Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute (BIDI) has developed an eight-step process for COVID-19 vaccinations to be provided at hospitals across the country.

Public Health Vice Minister Dr. Sophon Mekthon, in his capacity as chair of the COVID-19 vaccines management sub-committee, visited BIDI on Sunday to witness a test of the process, which will take 37 minutes from step one, when a person registers to receive the vaccine, until the last step when they can leave the hospital.

The full eight steps are:

1. A person registers at a kiosk-style machine (to reduce contact)
2. The person’s weight and blood pressure are taken
3. Screening and background check
4. Wait to be inoculated

Missing a few steps in the writeup, so here are the rest from the PBS article so you don't have to flip to it.

The full eight steps are:

  1. A person registers at a kiosk-style machine (to reduce contact)
  2. The person’s weight and blood pressure are taken
  3. Screening and background check
  4. Wait to be inoculated
  5. Vaccination, taking 5-7 minutes
  6. Wait under observation for 30 minutes. Doctors and nurses with resuscitation equipment will be on standby in case the injected person suffers serious side effects. All those who receive the vaccine are required to download the Mor Prom app to their smart phones for follow-up checks on the 1st, 7th and 30th day after the first dose, after which they will receive notification of the appointment for the second dose
  7. After the 30-mintutes of observation, nurses will ask about the patients’ condition, offer them advice and a pamphlet about vaccination before they return home
  8. Those who have received the second dose will receive a text message, via the Mor Prom app, confirming the completion of vaccination process

Also, step 6 is again the smartphone/app issue - what about people who do not have one or do not use internet on their mobile devices?

Drive-in is better, but I guess the priority would be different, prestige cars first....

There has just got to be some forms to fill in, copy, date and sign (only to find they are the wrong ones)...surely?

Another spy app? And this let's out how many people who don't own a smartphone? Haven't we already been down this smartphone requirement path before?

Owning a smartphone is not compulsory. Neither is having a vaccination.

There is no freedom of choice if you're required to own a smartphone in order to get a vaccination.

Is having a vacation compulsory.  If not then a vaccination is not unless mandated by the Thai Government or for that matter other governments to allow you to travel.  Kind of a catch 22.  As you said "freedom of choice in a nutshell", either damned if you do or damned if you don't.  Wonder what the reality of us expats being able to que for the vaccine at the same time as the Thai's.  In the US my mothers gardener, was able to get his with no issues, and he only has a green card.

I would think that the first person to be bold enough to go on social media and let it be known that they had been refused a vaccination because they didn't own a smart phone will take care of this little issue.

More likely Public Health officials will have already thought up a workaround in light of the previous outcry regarding Mor Chana.

More and more nowadays, Thais are proving that they do have freedom of choice and a voice to go with it.

And I'm guessing you haven't read the full article. A common error on TVF. In fact many don't even bother to read beyond the headline!

If they do that weight thing in Blackpool, UK where I'm stuck the scales will be broken in 20 minutes.

step 9 looks like falling down an escalator after you come out ..

Ordering vaccines and getting them delivered in the required quantities needs to come first though. Which is where the problem lies.

They have had almost a year to work this out and they are announcing it like it’s a breakthrough.  The breakthrough will be if it’s followed at all.

I take it this being in English must mean us foreigners are included in the scheme. That's great news.

15 to 20 stones would do it

IRL there would be four additional steps:

9. Take a seat and wait 10-15 minutes for medical report.

10. Take medical report to cashier. Scan barcode and get number ticket.

11. Wait another 10-15 minutes for number to be called.

12. Pay the cashier.

Of course there are apparently several hundred (thousand?) steps involved with getting a vaccine approved and imported before any of this can happen anyway.

I just hope there's a  register for placebo option at the kiosk thingy.

Necessary in order to determine whether or not all persons at protest sites are vaccinated.

All this tedious, detailed planning--pity no planning was done to actually acquire the vaccines, which should have been Step 1.

They local authorities (in the rural amphurs) will figure it out, probably just with paper.

Clearly making it simple was never the intention. My first jab took 15 minutes, but then the GP surgery was doing 1000 per day.

They need to develop a more efficient and faster approach when they start giving vaccines. Also a waiting period of 15 minutes after vaccine has worked out well in USA but we don’t have Chinese vaccine.
