Meghan accuses Buckingham Palace of 'perpetuating falsehoods'

LONDON (Reuters) - Prince Harry's wife Meghan has accused Buckingham Palace of "perpetuating falsehoods" about her and her spouse, saying the royal couple would not be silent in telling their story.

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, made the comments to American talk show host Oprah Winfrey in an interview about why they quit their royal roles that is due to be broadcast on U.S. television on Sunday.

An advance excerpt of the interview was released on Wednesday, hours after Buckingham Palace said it was "very concerned" about reports in the Times newspaper that assistants working for Meghan two years ago had been bullied by her.

Harry and Meghan issued a statement denying that she had bullied anyone.

"How do you feel about the Palace hearing you speak your truth today?" Winfrey asks Meghan in the excerpt.

Meghan responded: "I don't know how they could expect that after all of this time we would still just be silent, if there is an active role that The Firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us." The Firm is the name that the British royal family sometimes uses to describe itself.

"And if that comes with risk of losing things, I mean, there's a lot that's been lost already," Meghan added.

The interview was recorded before The Times newspaper ran a report citing unnamed sources as saying an aide to Harry and Meghan had raised a complaint in October 2018 alleging that Meghan had reduced some of her assistants to tears and treated others so badly that they had quit.

American and British royal commentators look ahead to Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The paper said Harry had urged the aide, who has now left their staff, to drop the complaint, and it never progressed.

The Times said it had been contacted by former staff members who wanted the public to gain insight before the Winfrey interview aired - and that lawyers for the couple had labelled the allegations a smear orchestrated by the Palace.

Reuters could not independently verify the report.

"We are clearly very concerned about allegations in The Times following claims made by former staff of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex," Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

The Royal Household "does not and will not tolerate bullying or harassment in the workplace", it added.

It said its HR team would look into the allegations, and that members of staff involved at the time would be invited to participate.

"SADDENED BY ATTACK"

A spokeswoman for Meghan said earlier that she was "saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma".

Meghan and Harry, who married in May 2018, stepped back from their official duties in March last year to forge new careers and a financially independent life in California.

That decision was confirmed last month, when they also handed over all their royal patronages. They said their move was fuelled in part by intense press intrusion.

However, Meghan had also previously indicated that she felt she did not have the full support of the royal family.

In court documents submitted as part of her successful privacy action against the mass-circulation Mail on Sunday, her lawyers said she had felt "unprotected" while she was pregnant with their son Archie.

It just goes from bad to worse with these two. All at a time when the 99 year old Prince Philip is sick in hospital. Absolutely classless. The trouble is, if they don't talk about the Royal Family they really have nothing of any interest to say. It becomes clear that this is one of the most privileged men in the world who liked dressing up as a Nazi for hiso parties and called his Asian Army colleague a <deleted>, lecturing the rest of us on privilege and racism. Talk about Projection ????.

The bullying claims don't surprise me at all. These virtue signalers are often most unpleasant individuals once the cameras are turned off and the curtains are drawn. That's why they feel the need to constantly remind others of their goodness.

It's really time to cut off all ties with Ginge and Cringe. Lost causes.

This is tragic. All that effort doing the Oprah show to play the doughy eyed victim of racism and bigotry, and now this! Just how is she supposed to play the victim when it is revealed she herself is the abuser - of women no less? 2 female PA's quitting and one left with PTSD looks more than a misunderstanding.

Made me think is it possible again for a chauffeur driver to race off in America chased by the media. !

If so, let's hope the driver isn't drunk this time.

Because let's face it, as much as Harry likes to bleat about the media killing his mother, that was the real cause of Diana's death (along with her decision not to wear a seatbelt).

Poor little cherub.

Blames buck palace when they werent the ones complaining, it was the assistants. So try bleating about them.

Not to worry, marriage will be over in 2 years and she can go on another talk show and blame the media.

Go live in tasmania, nothing ever happens there, no one will give a toss about you.

Thanks God for the Express and the Mail......if it were not for them, minor issues like the 120,000 dead in the pandemic, the Brexit fiasco and NI and the most important budget since whenever might dominate the news........phew!

Harry plus one are getting their own back for what the Royal morons did to Harrys Mum. Wills can't do it as he is going to be King one day, but Harry can and is doing .  Good on them, give it to those Palace muppets who still live in Victorian England

Yes it was rather poor timing for Harry and Meghan to choose such a difficult time for so many to go on Oprah and start bleating about how tough their life is.

She is a right "chip off the old block".  Her father can't stop selling stories to the press. Still bleating on about not being invited to the wedding.

Come to think of it, her half sister as well. Also I seem to recall another male relative even used the name Meghan or Markle to sell his cannabis products. Pure class. Still. Both her and Harry are where they belong now: LaLa Land.

Stunning for sure....but starting to get the impression she is a bunny boiler.....maybe shouldn't read the news!

But have hung onto the Duke and Duchess title .. if they want out fully then drop that as well .. become Mr and Mrs Wales and stop doing loaded chat show interviews whilst adopting a more than hypocritical posture at the injustice of just about everything she speaks about ..

You didn't have to be Mystic Meg to see this was gonna happen once she'd got hitched to a Prince for the lass is nothing but a social climber who seen the opportunity to push her own agendas ..

They wanted their cake and eat it too...it didn't work so now they are are complaining. If they want out of the royalty then 'out completely' it should be, no titles etc. They aren't destitute so they should just get on with the life they have chosen.

She picked a fight with the wrong Queen.

Why is Harry and Sparkle still upset about the Palace? I thought they'd burned that bridge already but it increasingly sounds like they hadn't even bothered to get over it before torching it.

Stop wasting bandwidth!

I think H & M should realise they can't take on the UK gutter press and associated media and win. They should keep their heads down show only contempt for the lying and manipulative bxxxxrds and their muckraking king Murdoch. If they keep their mouths firmly shut and ignore all provocation the Press finally moves on to the next target

Latest clip from CBS news channel 04/03/21 released after the bullying allegations:

For people who complained about the press, they spend a lot of time courting publicity.

I wish that all the press in all the world would just leave them alone. Please, that's all they ever wanted.

I see more stories about them now than I ever did whilst they were working. He worked well whilst serving with the Army, I even forgave him his high spirits, after all, what's a spare to do?

This, what he and his wife are doing now just pisses me off big time.

I hope Harry has a few kilts in the wardrobe because he never seems to wear the pants very often.

  • Popular Post

Both of them are a breath of fresh air.  I am glad they escaped from that dysfunctional family.  May they grow and prosper in their new home.

Personally I would have fired the British royal family generations ago and established a Republic. The Megan/Harry debate is a fatuous waste of time.
