BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health has brought together 29 pharmaceutical and supplement producers with marijuana growing community enterprises in a major step to develop the plant into a new segment of the health industry, leading to new medicinal products and avenues for tourism.

Minister of Public Health Anutin Chanvirakul, accompanied by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Mananya Thaiset and executives of the Ministry of Public Health, held a press conference on "Developing Marijuana for the Thai Economy", which took place as part of a workshop on marijuana in the medical industry and matching session for relevant businesses.

Anutin emphasized that his office is supporting the entire marijuana supply chain, from growers to manufacturers and retailers, as well as the public. The aim is to have marijuana become an economic crop serving the Thai traditional medicine segment and target groups.

Developing the plant into a health product is to better the quality of life for the Thai people and prop up the economy while creating a new avenue for medical tourism, with travelers to be invited to learn about marijuana.

Among the 29 producers present were modern medicine manufacturers, traditional medicine makers, herbalists and supplement producers, who collectively require over 30 tons of marijuana.

They were matched with community enterprises in five provinces, representing over 9.6 hectares of crops and projected to generate over 150 million baht.

Within 2021, marijuana is to be made the medical sector’s 20th service plan, to increase access for treatment. At present, more than 700 ministry affiliated hospitals nationwide offer marijuana, with the target being availability at clinics in all areas.

Marijuana and hemp have been made key missions for the Ministry of Public Health, as it seeks to generate more revenue for the nation.

The problem is you may be able to grow the plant and you can sell all parts - leaves, stem, stalk, root - but not flowers.

So, the minister, why do you think poor farmers and ordinary people would grow marijuana for if they can't make profits out of the crops?

Let's turn everyone into soporific addicts and maybe they will be too stoned to protest.

I agree it's an excellent idea, good to see your support for the idea!It might reduce the amount of destruction going on.

Good news if you have cancer or a terminal disease. Otherwise you won't be approved.

At Pranburi Clinic I was denied THC for degenerative disk disease and scoliosis (verified by x-ray at the clinic) but offered monthly morphine injections. All done with a straight face by the doctor. I told him to <deleted> off and left the office.

Have you tried Khao San Rd for a certified approval certificate? They should have them by now.

You can only sell flowers and seeds to some designated government agencies such as Tambol Hospitals รพ สต, not in general markets as flowers and seeds are still illegal products. The prices to sell these stuff are not competitive as it's a monopoly.

But good news is they are considering amending a law so that everyone can grow plants without having to register as วิสาหกิจชุมชน

I think we might both be correct on this one as it's both legal and illegal. If true it would be excellent news if everyone was able to grow it without so much formal regulations. My Thai isn't that flash without my iPad for vocabulary assistance.

Even if you're very proficient in Thai, you will most likely be confused reading/listening to these news, even from Thai FDA. You will need to use your intuitive, critical thinking to understand what they're trying to communicate. ????

You might want to try รพ.แพทย์แผนไทย located near Hua Lamphong train station. They have kanja clinic at very reasonable price. But you must be accompanied with a Thai person to be able to communicate with them.
