PHUKET: Authorities have claimed water erosion as the reason behind a large section of road collapsing at the Khlong Krata reservoir in Chalong recently.

The Phuket Provincial Irrigation Office confirmed it recently undertook an examination of the site, located behind Luang Pu Supha Temple, where a stretch of the concrete road approximately 35 metres long had collapsed into the water 10 metres below on Feb 28.

The subsequent report, issued by the Engineering Division Director of Phuket Provincial Irrigation Office Natthapong Phitboon, stated that persistent waves created by strong winds had caused the erosion which resulted in the collapse.

Look at the amount of concrete around the base of the crash barrier support pole! Was that supposed to hold back a car if it was struck!!

Sure, it was erosion!  LOL

Our place is off of the Nan River and erosion does create problems. However, the problem can be fixed fairly easy by simply dumping more dirt to replace the dirt that was washed away. This solution works so well that it can be repeated every couple of years...

nothing to do with the engineering behind the construction - right ?

I'm no engineer, but surely if you hammer in a bunch of poles into a cliff edge your creating cracks in the cliff edge ?

To be fair, the barrier stayed pretty much in place whilst the road and all the ground under it disappeared!

I dont think so, but there appears to be a severe lack of any Concrete buttressing under the Roadway.

But that is not to do with the Engineering, it is due to the Water making the waves.

Oh Mother Nature, thou art such a B*tch.  Looks like the roqd will have to be moved over in that section.

Geezer

Who would have thought erosion might be a factor when building a road on the edge of a 10 meter drop to water?

Of course some unanticipated winds causing waves were the main culprits.
