Beware of air-conditioning scams

Our thai/farang tenants visited a well known aircon retailer on moat southside where sale specials included all major brands with seemingly deep discounts and free this free that .... according to the flyers, but all in Thai of course.  Now we all know how hard it can be for a Thai lady to a/. elicit factual information from sales people and b/. be able to translate technical data into English (even with perfect language skills).

So, the selected unit appeared to have pm2.5 filtering, free install with 4m pvc covers etc.  Upon questioning a manager, with good English, in minute detail, it became apparent the unit at advertised price on flyer, came WITHOUT pm2.5 filters, WITHOUT install, and no free anything.  Ok, no problem they said, we have our own Aussie installer so we'll take the unit as advertised .... except they refused to sell at the advertised price and insisted that extra MUST be paid for the copper pipe, bracket and PVC covers etc, all of which we did not require.  A polite argument ensued in Thai between the wife and staff which led to them walking out and going elsewhere.... for same deal and instant smiling service.

Of interest, and here I believe many customers are being mislead (if not worse), is the claim re 2.5ppm filtering.   It turns out almost all a/c's have a similar set of very small filters installed either below the lint/dust filter or as with say mitsi or Daikin, inserted within the lint filter.  These so-call filters are TINY, approx 90% smaller than the air intake orifice and by my calculation, would in fact filter less than 5% of the airflow.  Don't be conned by sales talk!

As for the refusal to sell the advertised aircon at the advertised price .... well in UK/Aus they laws which would see the company taken to court over that.

i'll bet there's a Thai equivalent of E&OE (Errors & Omissions Excepted) buried in the small microscopic print ????

Nope.   The whole  double fold A3 flyer and instore promo signage is total codswallop.  Want a copy posted here ?

If you redact any detail that would point to the outlet why not, even if it only makes you feel better.

Large - South side of Moat - can only be ...

Charades - 2 words - first word - starts with S - 4 letters -- second word - two letters - abbreviation

I feel fine thanks Crossy ???? given Thai laws it would not be prudent to publish even a redacted copy of that company's 'summer sale' promo sheet.  Thankfully they are not a nation-wide company, so it's only CNX BMs who may succumb to the scam.

Was quite satisfied with Siam Air Engineering in Chang Puek.

That place , not Siam Engineering, was hit and miss in it’s old location.  Lots of other choices for same stuff.
