Hi, I came to Thailand on a visa exemption which is valid until the 12th of April (I haven't extended it yet) and would like to change it to a marriage visa. How long does the process take? Will I obtain a 3-month visa first and then get a one-year extension? Do I need to have 400k THB in my bank account before I apply for the marriage visa or before I apply for its one-year extension? Thank you!

For the non o (marriage) You need money in bank on day of application.

Then when you apply for extension it must be in bank 2 months prior to day of application.

The non O gives you 90 day permission of stay. That gives you time to season the funds for 2 months. You apply for the extension (think it's 15 days + prior to expiry)

You will need at least 15 days remaining on your 45 day visa exempt entry or the 30 day extension of it to apply for the non-o visa at immigration.

Requirements for the visa application is here. https://bangkokimmigration.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/06-edit_NON-O.pdf

Yes, of course.

Think the "of course" is slightly harsh.

Currently entering visa exempt or tourist visa with the plan to apply for a non O based on marriage or retirement is asked about often, especially of late.

I know married guys that due to work etc just visit Thailand as much as possible on visa exempt and tourist visas. Some don't even have a Thai bank account.

Anyway skip all that, this post is to assist anyone going down same track as the OP. You need to organize bank account asap upon arrival if you don't have one. It's not a straight forward process to open bank account.

BTW OP, your post read as having very limited knowledge of the process. Assumed this was your first non O. (It's not a marriage visa)
