This is from the new e-visa site and cannot be correct can it?

 

 

That appears to the fee for a multiple entry tourist visa (METV). A single entry tourist visa is $40.

Go back and check to see if you selected a METV.

No

Only a single entry tourist visa is being issued. And the special tourist visa (STV) but it is not a very popular option due to ridiculous requirements for it.

A good option at this time is entering visa exempt that allows a 45 day entry at this time that can be extended for 30 days.

Usually there is a visa exempt for only 30 days.  Did they just recently increase it to 45 days?

The changed to 45 days from 30 days to include the 15 days of quarantine a few months ago.

I'm assuming once quarantine is no longer required the Thai government will revert back to just 30 days?

Currently, the change is in affect until 30 September 2021.
