I am thinking of taking a trip to the USA.......I am in Thailand now on a 1 year retirement visa......60 years old

Looking over the travel situation to go back to the USA for a visit I would need to.

1. Get a PCR test 72 hours before the flight......

2.Fly Back to the USA.........

And that's pretty much it for the flight to America....

Returning to Thailand is the hard part....

If I understand things right the things I need to do to return to Thailand are

!. Get a PCR test 72 hours before the flight......

2. Get covid insurance for 1 year because I have a 1 year retirement visa.......I was thinking of buying a policy here https://www.tipinsure.com/CovidRegional/product_detail some one said they have cheap policys around 14,000 baht?

3. As of April I would only need to Book 10 days in a ASQ Hotel........Cost 15-20,000 Baht ?

4. Get a COE from the Royal Thai Embassy.........I would be using the Washington DC branch........

Is this all I would need to do to fly back to Thailand?

My Question is would it be possible to get the COE before I even left Thailand ? If I could supply them with all the paperwork they needed like copy of passport, visa flight, insurance? Also how long might it take to get the COE?

Thanks a lot .........

2. You do not need one year of covid 19 insurance unless you have a valid OA visa that will allow a one year permit to stay in the country.

If you actually have extension of stay based upon retirement you will only need it up to the day your extension and re-entry permit expires.

You will also need 40k/400k baht medical insurance.

If you could get vaccinated for covid 19 while are in the states you would only need 7 days of quarantine.

A COE, specifically from the Us and the  Thai Embassy and Consulates located there, can take hours, days or even weeks.  Mine took 10 days(LA Consulate).  I did something similar to what you are planning.  I have and had OA's visa's for years.  I have obtained 3 OA Visa's from the LA Consulate. Getting the actual Visa was simple but I cannot say the same for the COE.

I had planned on 3 wees to return to Thailand.  I left in early January 2021 and did not return until mid February.  It everything goes well then obtaining the COE in 15 days is possible.  If something goes wrong then you will need more time.  What many do not realize is obtaining the COE is just the  beginning of the process.

While I was in the Check In line at LAX the passenger in front was told his Covid 19 RT-PCR would not be accepted.  The  reason was this:  The flight departs at 2200 hrs on Friday night.  This passenger had his saliva sample drawn on Tuesday morning and  his "not detected" lab result was returned to him on Wednesday.  Therefore, the samlpe was taken outside of the 72 hour window.  This passenger was able to find a nearby lab that completed a Rapid RT-PCR test in 2 hours and he made the flight.  This rapid test cost $500 dollars.

You could go on the COE website and try to obtain it while in Thailand.  But you will have to upload proof of insurance(s), flight to Bangkok and ASQ hotel.  i do not know if you can obtain it from Thailand.  But the entire process is through the COE website operated by the MFA(Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

Be careful planning your return trip and triple check everything.

Good luck.

I have a non o visa that has been extended for reasons of retirement. If I leave the country, come back using my current re-entry visa. Assuming I meet the current rules of;

covid vaccination card (document),

RT-PCR test

Cert of Entry

7 day Quarantine

Covid Insurance*

*Am I following your statement above about insurance correctly?

I would need covid insurance from the date of my re-entry into Thailand. To the expiration of my re-entry visa, I.E., my non o renewal date?

Example – If my non o renewal date is December 1 and I reentered Thailand on October 3, I would need a Covid Insurance policy running for say 60 days, covering me until I renew my non o extension. And that would be it.

Sorry just confused.

For the covid 19 insurance the is correct.

But you will also need the 40/400k insurance that is normally needed for a OA visa valid for the length of your stay. But that can depend upon where you are applying for the COE. It is needed in US and most other countries.

Would that length of stay also be determined from when I re entered Thailand to the renewal date of my non o visa? And then I would not need to have it anymore as I have a non 0, not a non OA.

Or would they want me to keep it ...... going ... to when ever I ended my stay in Thailand. Which could be ten years or more.

Thanks

Just to put you on the straight and narrow.

You cannot extend a Visa. When you entered Thailand on a Non O you were granted a stay of 90 days.

You then extend that permission of stay each year at Immigration for a further 365 days.

To answer your question, both the 400/40K Health Insurance and Covid Insurance must cover the period of stay you'll be granted on re-entry to Thailand.

If for example your existing extension was due for renewal on 12th December and you exited and re-entered Thailand again on 20th July, then any Insurance would need to cover that period.

When you renew your extension in December for the following year at your local Immigration office,  Insurance is not a requirement to renew an extension from a Non O Visa entry.
