Daily News reported that a great number of police and the general public turned up for Covid-19 tests at the Police Hospital in Bangkok yesterday.

This followed an outbreak at the RTP HQ in Pathumwan.

Policemen and women and civil servants connected to the force got the tests for free.

The general public - 100% in masks - had to pay 2,200 baht with an extra 400 baht on top for a 40 minute express results service.

Floors 17-19 at RTP HQ had been sprayed.

Spokesman Pol Maj-Gen Yingyot Thepjamnong expressed concern for the police and the public.

He reported 42 cases of police being infected nationwide yesterday.

A Thaivisa reporter said that a large queue of cars formed at Viphavadee Hospital in the northern part of the city as nurses and officials in full protection suits catered to the public at a drive-in testing facility at the hospital.

Absolutely ridiculous. Testing and Vaccinations should be without charge.

I suspect hanging around in that line-up would be a good way to catch a nasty virus.

Exactly that...   The information should have been very clear.

Anyone who thinks they may have been exposed isolate for two weeks. If people are prepared to pay 2,200 baht for a test, they ‘may’ isolate, those who are unable to isolate offer a greater number of test facilities around the capital not just on one ‘nodal hotspot’.

All that has been done here is to potentially create a  'super-spreder' event where people ‘may’ come into contact with others who are carrying SARS-CoV-2, and are immediately tested, of course test negative but develop covid-19 after a few days, these people think they are negative because they were tested a few days ago - Bingo, we have swathes of people convinced they are not carriers going on about their daily lives.

That's not true and quite unfair to the many sensible ordinary Thai people. The real basket cases are those that due to privilege, who they know or money or a combination of all 3 they consider themselves better then others. They are the real baskets cases most of whom have a hand in running, or trying to, running this country for their own benefit.

The country is defined by its governance .. a basket case is the definition. Not referencing many of the ordinary sensible ..if rather naive Thais

40 min rapid result, sounds like cross lateral flow tests been used, free to everyone in the uk now, twice weekly if you want, but a positive still requires a PCR confirmation.

Kinda nice to know where you stand in the status line.

2200bht is a weeks wages for the working class Thai no wonder such low numbers.

They are having to make a decision to eat this week or have a test...

Publishing a timeline of your average positively- tested policeman would be somewhat enlightening.  Imagine a fair number of doughnut joints, karaoke bars and underground lottery operators would be twitching.

So those who can afford it get it for free, those who might be a bit tight have to pay...

one sure way to discourage those who don't have the spare cash for a test to stay low until symptoms show then go get help... a recipe for another disaster looming.
