You've missed the point slightly.

 

You knew that if you invested in Chanotes and more land than you can poke a stick at, there was no benefit to you in the eyes of the Thai government and with your visa status, but you did it anyway.

 

You can't then come and complain here that you haven't got what was never on the table.

 

I really wish you continued happiness, but when your wife or her family offer you a good land deal for a couple of million baht, then go ahead, just don't complain that it gives you no rights.

 

Accept what it is.

 

Back to the OP, don't get so worked up about the talk that they want to target the high spenders, it's talked about so much but never impacts the guys that are already here playing by the current rules.

I laughed when I first read it, then an actual tear came to my eye.

 

I would be living in a villa in the south of France if i had that income.

These clowns should ask themselves, why do we have the farangs reporting every 90 days, we have their details, we know where they are, if we want them, we can contact them, if they change their address or contact numbers without notifying us within 7 days, we can fine them for not complying. There that wasn't too hard was it, so see you all in a year when you renew your extensions.

IMHO  you have come closest to the reality of any  consideration over  the 90 day report issue.

It is an outdated non revenue collecting annoyance factor to all involved which due to the increased capacity to track or locate foreigners by way  of enhanced  digital integrated  systems  has become relatively redundant  in terms of  assumed need in the same way amending  individual requirements of the TM30 unless involving a permanent/long term change of address.

Other issues  touted in reference to this topic I personally would dismiss as provocative  speculation .

 

Another good idea to get more retirees. Like myself and most of the members on this forum. They cleverly got all you blokes already.

 

Also a good plan to target those who will spend over 200,000 baht per month. You need that or more to have a reasonably high standard of living here. If people have a high standard of living they enjoy life more and are less likely to walk around with a chip on their shoulder causing issues in immigration offices etc. 

 

I can’t say the 90 day report is much of a problem. Takes me about 5 minutes every 90 days to do it online. Too easy. 

Based on past experience of Thai bureaucracy and Thai culture in general, any change in the rules will mostly likely be an ADD-ON (ie making life even more complicated while announcing itself as a simplification to attract more rich settlers).

 

Starting from zero and a blank sheet of paper seems to be beyond the imagination and the capability of any Thai bureaucrat or politician. Too many past 'investments' at stake for one thing. And abstract thinking required for another.

Is only about 6,500 per day.
 

1,500 for car/health/house insurance.

500 for utilities. 
1,500 beer and wine

2,000 eating out breakfast, lunch and dinner.

1,000 for “others”, shopping, trips, massages, coffee shops, tips, clothes, etc etc

500-1,000 for staff cleaning, gardening, laundry, pool guy

200,000 to 300,000 baht or more to have a reasonably high standard of living here....lol, I rarely spend anywhere near 100,000 baht which includes private health cover, oh and that's for 6 of us, and we aren't walking around with chips on our shoulders, nor causing issues in immigration offices as you are referring.

80,000 divided by 6= 13,300 per person 
Less than I pay my house cleaner.

Divided by 30 days = 444 baht per day. Less than $20AUD

 

It is possible, some uneducated, unskilled Thais on the minimum 300 baht per day somehow cope. They struggle though.

I couldn’t do it. If I had to live on $20 per day I would just return to Australia and get a job.
 

The point is they are not trying to attract low budget retirees as they openly admit.

90 Day reports. What they really want to do is make each retiree bring their receipts for each month and prove that they have spent their 100,000 baht for each month. If not you can pay up on your way out.
