Government Prepares 25,000 Beds Nationwide for Covid-19 Patients

BANGKOK (NNT) - The government has provided over 25,000 beds nationwide to field hospitals and hospitals, in order to treat the increasing number of Covid-19 patients.

 

Deputy government spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek said 1,250 beds were usable in four field hospitals in Bangkok, where 500 more beds will be added. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation had urged universities with readiness to open field hospitals and there were 12,822 beds available at 37 field hospitals across the country.

 

In addition, the Ministry of Defense has procured over 5,000 beds in Bangkok and regional areas. These beds will be delivered to the Ministry of Public Health.

 

As of Saturday, the number of confirmed cases in Thailand had risen to 40,585. Of these, 37,353 were contracted locally, including 19,980 found via proactive testing, while 3,232 were returnees.

this is what happened from Apr 01 to Apr 18, today. from this trend, tomorrow we come to 15,000 hospitalised ???? this is not only a crisis of lack of beds, this is a crisis on the public healthcare.

Criminy, it reminds me of Boot-Camp.  All that is needed is a DI to scream at the "boots" and have them swim the floor in their underwear. 

If they really implement these concentration camps they really will start killing people.  They need to allow home quarantine and isolation.  Do you think you'll find one of the Thai Ministers in one of these concentration camps guaranteed to be a virus breeding ground. And yet they are going to force the public into them.  That's a scary picture.

Draw a line on the chart where the Thai government allowed citizens from Covid Red Zones to travel back to their home provinces unimpeded. 
It's almost like they wanted the Covid spike that they manufactured.

Yes it's a virus breeding ground, because only people tested positive will be isolated there. It seems unlikely people will die because if it. It's quite the opposite. These people get medical care while in other countries they are told to stay home. 

 

Is it feasible to keep using this tactic? No probably not. Especially when cases keep increasing and more critical cases come.

Damned if they do and damned if they don't... so keep the majority happy... let them roam.

Pick-up the pieces after.

if people were told in advance not to travel, and not on 10th, which was the first day of songkran, the majority would probably change their plans, including cancelling flights, hotels and got money back.

 

because I have expected looming chaos I went for my holidays early and came back on 10th, saturday, cutting them short. Others would also had chance to do so, minimising burden on transport, hotels.

Asymptomatic people should be at home.  Treating people who are not sick but test positive is going to strain the medical facilities to the breaking point - and very quickly.  Not a da*m thing is gained by medically treating someone who isn't sick. 
The Thai healthcare workers should be reserved for those who are actually ill and manifesting Covid symptoms. 
What packing Covid positives in close proximity will do is expose people who are asymptomatic to high viral loads of airborne SARS-Cov-2.  Then people who would not have manifested symptoms may actually get sick and need medical personnel to attend to them therefore staining the medical infrastructure until it breaks.

Instead of "flattening the curve" this will spike the curve and create an even larger problem.
It's not a good idea and it will blow-back on the Thai health authorities if they start packing people into these quasi-prison concentration camps imho. That's what they plan to do: forcefully incarcerate Covid positives.
The asymptomatic should be allowed to quarantine at home. Thailand would rather lock their citizens up (and foreigners too).  It will work until it doesn't.  And it will stop working if a hurry.

I agree that they should let people quarantine at home. The reason they do it now is so isolate the infected in order to stop the spread. The field hospitals are not build with giving medical support in mind, it's solely a tactic to make sure people are isolated and therefore not spread it.

 

The big draw back that comes from this, is that people will not get themselves tested because they don't want to go "camping" with other infected. 

Today I already saw some messages where the thai government called for self isolation, so I think we reached a point where the hospitals sees it stopped being feasible. So that's some good news I guess.
