Popular Post webfact Posted April 21, 2021 Popular Post Posted April 21, 2021 File photo Prognosis By Randy Thanthong-Knight Thailand aims to boost its vaccine order by more than 50% to 100 million doses this year in a bid to reach herd immunity, as surging local infections threaten to derail plans to reopen borders to tourism and reboot the economy. The government plans to buy 35 million more doses from two or three manufacturers with a target to administer them all by the end of 2021, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha said a day after chairing a meeting on the country’s new inoculation plan. The National Vaccine Institute is in talks with Pfizer Inc. for as many as 10 million doses, he said Tuesday. Thailand’s scaling up of vaccination efforts comes as Moody’s Investors Service cautioned that a new wave of Covid-19 cases threatens to further derail an economy that relies on tourism for about a fifth of gross domestic product. Infections have surged more than 60% so far this month, prompting at least two GDP downgrades, while fewer than 1% of Thais have received at least one of two vaccine doses. Popular Post rasmus5150 Posted April 21, 2021 Popular Post Posted April 21, 2021 Didn't Prayuth just say 61 million doses... Now suddenly he will get 40 mill more.... I hope somebody will save these articles, and post them when Christmas comes. And I'm referring to Christmas 2021 ???? 3 1 2

Popular Post ThailandRyan Posted April 21, 2021 Popular Post Posted April 21, 2021 I read Boost in the title and thought yeah boosting them ie... stealing them from another country just might work, and then I thought boost them from who? 1 1 3
Popular Post Pattaya Spotter Posted April 21, 2021 Popular Post Posted April 21, 2021 Talks here...talk there...everyday reports of more government TALKS to secure additional vaccine supplies ( which every other middle and lower income country in the world is doing as well). Report back when they have actually contractually secured more vaccine deliveries. 7

Popular Post nausea Posted April 22, 2021 Popular Post Posted April 22, 2021 Next year probably, when we're all swimming in vaccines. Certainly, if I was a tourism business guy, this would be my realistic time frame. Having done some project management stuff in my time, you have soft and hard deadlines, you acknowledge the former but live by the latter. Personally, I intend to mostly self-isolate until March 2022, when my retirement extension comes up for renewal. Hopefully, they'll have it sorted by then. I must say taking a year or two out, leaving the maelstrom that characterises normal life here for many Farangs, for self-examination and reflection, has its advantages. 5
Popular Post mikebell Posted April 22, 2021 Popular Post Posted April 22, 2021 As they've not yet managed 1%, the 50% boost should get it up to 2% but that only includes high-ranking Armed Forces officers/police and politicians. 4 1

I have to say that I've never experienced the 'maelstrom that characterizes normal life here' as you put it. However I sure am glad that I followed my wife's advice in moving to her village some 4 years ago. Covid has, by and large, just passed us by here and I'm not too bothered about the pace of the vaccination programme. It wouldn't suit everyone I know, but for me the slow pace of village life is just what I need for my latter years. 2 2
RubbaJohnny Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 Is it a promising hub or a hub for promises,? Of cours talk is cheap we will all be able to compare the performance of different nations if we survive. Press and press spokesmen are on a wheel not always in gear with reality and very few have any scientific or medical expertise.
natway09 Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 So far the purchases have been short of "dismal" All talk again ?
petedk Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 They can order as many as they like, but if they don't increase the number of vaccinations from the 10K-20K a day, it will still take forever to administer them.
Fromas Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 Hands up if you know the total number of committees, sub-committees and panels!
ukrules Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 This is more like it, had they done this a year ago then they would have a chance of getting it completed this year. It will drag into 2022 for one reason only - incompetence and ignorance. 2

Maybe at last some of the lies, and the Smoke and Mirrors tactics are starting to come back and bite Thailand on the Butt. I am surprised that Thailand has not been downgraded already, and not just by Moody,s. If you ever wonder what spurs on this Gov,t, think Money, and nothing else. A downgrade would mean more expensive borrowing( and the Gov,t will need to borrow more ) so pay for all the War Toys procured / ordered just before the Pandemic.
Ramdas Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 They can only wish and dream about it ???? The practice of constantly ripping westerns off is not longer working !!! Surely there are many other countries in south east Asia who welcome foreigners unlike Thailand which is pushing them away ! ????????♂️

A lack of tourism means the farmgirl's option of running off to Pattaya or Bkk to cash in on what god gave her is no longer feasible, and the country sheds the reputation it acquired during the Vietnam War. Hey, ya never know. In five years will all the girlie bars and go-gos be replaced by bingo casinos for Russian tourists?
