2,000 US soldiers to visit Pattaya in August

Up to 2,000 US soldiers are expected to visit Pattaya in August for R&R upon completion of the Cobra Gold military exercise.

A meeting was held at Pattaya City Hall on Wednesday between representatives from The US military, embassy and municipal officials.

The meeting was to establish security protocols and COVID-19 preventive measures for when the soldiers arrive.

The soldiers will land at Bali Hai pier with security forces patrolling the area around the clock.

All soldiers who arrive in Pattaya  will have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, while more than 70 percent of the population in Banglamung, which includes Pattaya, will have been vaccinated by the time they arrive, Manager reported.

According to Capt Matt Barker, naval attaché at the US embassy in Bangkok, Pattaya was chosen for the soldiers R&R as it is well known for its wide range of amenities, natural beauty and delicious food.

With the lack of tourists in the resort due to COVID-19, the arrival of the soldiers should provide a small, but not insignificant boost to the local economy.

I certainly see this mission being delayed.

Yup.  And "All soldiers who arrive in Pattaya  will have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine"   ?

...The US military may have some vaccinating to do as well:  "US military says a third of troops opt out of being vaccinated, but the numbers suggest it's more"

I can see them enjoying the natural beauty and even some of the unnatural type.

Hopefully all the 'front line workers' waiting for them would have been vaccinated by then too.

Yes they will need their jabs.

As a gesture of good will, perhaps the US can send an advance medical team to help vaccinate the Thai military and "front line works" ahead of the exercise

No worries they will have their own booze, all they need are girls, with or without masks as they got their two jabs already. Maybe they have some extra vaccines you know the good ones?

Betchya some girls turn up for them!

with Pattaya the way it is atm, why would any service people choose to come here?

But being here for 20 years already, I have fond memories.

IMHO the whole thing is a disgrace.

The Yanks and Thais can surely put off playing War Games for one Year during the Pandemic.

if this occurs it would be equally brainless on both sides, though it could start a breakthrough business in 'body condoms' lol..

I'm sure the girls will open everything up & make sure everything's polished and ready.

The US military and government sinks a ton of money into these exercises and to build capacity/capabilities for the Thai “partners”, not to mention all the money the service members spend when here.  What good will in return has there been?   Instead, buddying up to Xi every opportunity it seems.  BTW: Thailand delayed doing anything, then purposely decided to go with China’s vaccine, maybe they should step up and BUY more quality vaccines and ensure proper distribution.
