The majority of COVID-19 cases in Bangkok discovered during the third wave of infections can be linked to entertainment venues, according to data released by the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on Sunday.

According to CCSA spokesperson Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, almost two thirds of infections are linked to Bangkok bars and nightclubs.

As of Sunday (25 April), the number of people who visited entertainment venues and then tested positive for the virus totalled 2,227, Daily News reported.

This was many times more than at other locations.

The types of venues linked to infections are as follows:

Entertainment venues - 2,227 cases

Family or home -  278

Workplace or company - 203

Cluster links from other provinces - 199

SQ/ASQ/AHQ - 89

Banquet seminar/ordination ceremony - 78

Hospitals - 77

Markets - 74

Restaurants - 74

Stores/convenience stores - 55

Sports venues/gyms - 32

Police station - 22

Educational institutions - 17

Prisons - 11

Religious place - 10

Condos - 9

Beauty salon/massage/spa - 9

Public transport - 6

Other - 8

Dr Taweesin said that provinces are implementing their own measures, which have been  approved by the CCSA,  in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

He cited the requirement in more than 40 provinces to wear face masks when out in public, which he asked for the public’s cooperation with.

Does it matter ?

It has happened, and nothing can change that now.

At least most of the said entertainment venues were probably legal, but all this statement does is take the pressure off the illegal activities of officials related to the illegals entering and illegal gambling dens, non of which will probably face any action for their blatant corruption.

Alcohol doesn't spread the virus.... drinking it is no problem they use it as an excuse. If so why do we use alcohol everywhere to disinfect our hands?? Sitting close together, share the same glass or bottle will do more harm than when i drink a bottle of beer myself. And yeah if you are getting drunk......than it is a different case

Could be any place.  There's not enough testing and tracing.  The conservative government always blames alcohol or gambling.  Probably some people from Myanmar escaping there own nightmarish junta.
