Hi,

 

I'm looking for feedback on the woodstains available here in Thailand.

 

I have Googled it and there are many available but there is no way to compare one to another, other than buying one of each type available (which could get a bit expensive) I have no way of knowing which ones are good and which ones not so much.

 

My application will be onto bare rubberwood sheeting (Boonwood) style to darken it up before applying Spar varnish over the top as the final finish.

I use shellac as I want to see the wood grain. There are about 4 different suppliers the colours are similar but not all the same, I then use a clear shellac to seal the colour     Here is a rubber wood table using that and Epifanes 

 

and another different colour 

But this has a water based polyurethane top coat. 
 

The above are all top grade boards, there are also different grades this is a B grade board

Can I also ask what type of Epifanes you used - that was the brand I was looking to use also?

this is a product that needs to go on very thick, it’s good on a horizontal surface.

 

Be absolutely sure your surface is perfect before using the varnish, once the varnish is on you will have extreme difficulty correcting a mistake DAMHIKT, I was unable to find the thinner, I didn’t try hard, thinning it will make life easier, again DAMHIKT. Although I do usually spray I do not advise doing that, I tried, it wasn’t terrible, I used a brush for the 2 final heavy coats.

Nice one! She is Lotto. I used that picture as you can see her reflection in the finish on the table top. SWMBO named her and the other two we just got she decided that Otto and Auto were good names for them. Add a Thai accent then Imagine the difficult of knowing which one she is talking about 5555
