You could be workign and have a work permit, but this does not by itself give one free or reduced price medical care.

I didn't say it did...you have to be working AND contributing to the govt. social security scheme (usually foreign teachers in Thai public schools and universities and a few others maybe working full time at government agencies or ministries). Some private employers may also be part of the scheme.

10,000 vaccines secured for those with mental disabilities

Thailand will allocate Covid-19 vaccines for people with mental disabilities starting at the end of May, the Department of Mental Health announced late Sunday.

“We are initially requesting about 10,000 doses of the vaccines from the Department of Disease Control to give to people with intellectual disabilities and their families” in the Bangkok Metropolitain Area, said Dr Panpimol Wupulakorn, the director-general of the Department of Mental Health at the Ministry of Public Health.

“This will approximately cover 1,000 families, and then the programme will be expanded to those with other mental health problems.”

Bangkok officials on Monday set up a third vaccination unit in Bangkok’s Klong Toei, where the race is on to inoculate 70 per cent of slum residents to contain a serious outbreak of Covid-19.

Of the vaccines below, only the AstraZeneca, Sinovac and Johnson & Johnson versions thus far have been approved for use in Thailand.

The government's own vaccination program thus far is only using the AstraZeneca and Sinovac vaccines, but the government is seeking to acquire doses of the Pfizer, Moderna and Sputnik vaccines.

I should have noted above regarding this chart, numerous public health experts have said that it is NOT valid to compare all these vaccines above on their listed percentages for ability to prevent symptomatic infections.

The reason for that is, according to the various health officials, the various trials for the different vaccines above were conducted in various different countries at different points in the pandemic and in settings where different versions of the coronavirus were prevalent at the time. Thus, by and large, those percentage numbers are not legitimate "apples to apples" comparisons.

There may be differences between the vaccines in that regard, but not that can be legitimately determined from the original trials data on their use.

What is important, the various health officials have said repeatedly, is that all of the above vaccines (except for Sinopharm as of the preparation of the above chart) have proven in trials to be totally effective at preventing severe COVID infections and deaths.

Ploy Chermarn under fire after catching Covid while island-hopping

Popular Thai actress Ploy Cherman was facing heavy online criticism Monday after reports that the star contracted Covid-19 from beach trips during the past two weeks.

With more than 116,000 mentions within hours, netizens were using the hashtag #พลอยเฌอมาลย์ (Ploy Cherman) on Twitter and other social media platforms to call out the actress for abusing her privileges as a celebrity to go on holiday while many are dying or struggling to make make ends meet during the third wave of the coronavirus.

Thailand found its first case of a coronavirus variant that is spreading in India and neighbouring countries, the government said on Monday.

The patient is a quarantined Thai woman age 42 who returned from Pakistan this month.

“This was the first Indian variant case in Thailand,” said Dr Apisamai Srirangsan, the deputy spokeswoman for the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

And further (expanding the restriction already in place for non-Thai nationals travelers from India):

"Thailand on Monday widened its travel ban to international arrivals from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal in a bid to prevent the Indian variant of Covid-19 from entering the country."

Looks like the MoPH is posting on efforts to expand the number of available ICU beds at Rajavithi Hospital in Bangkok -- "Extended COVID ICU."

As posted earlier in this thread:

"On Monday, health officials reported the number of COVID patients hospitalized in critical condition reached 1,151, with 389 of those on ventilators required in order to breath. That number has been reported as 1,138 on Saturday, then jumped to 1,442 on Sunday, and then was reduced to 1,151 on Monday without explanation. The total number of hospitalized patients rose by just five to 29,376, with 1,603 newly released."

This flat 2000 cases a day is a red herring and NOT indicative of what's happening in hospitals and clinics.

Thailand are simply NOT testing enough. People need to accept that. No other country in the world has had flat numbers of cases for two weeks straight. Its either trending up OR down.

Additionally the lack of lockdown means that the virus will continue to thrive despite what the government is reporting.

I've said before that I know a few people who've tested positive for Covid after symptoms, entire families. They've not reported this and have chosen to self-isolate. They used Lateral Flow tests.

Sincerely

MORRIS

Been said by many, including myself, but still those who say testing is enough. Lab tests for PUI has stayed pretty constant at average 15k and numbers if positive have stayed pretty constant, but hey, some will still deny there is any connection between the two.

I can only use Singapore as a guide because that's where I am currently and the authorities have been pretty transparent so far. We are inoculated with Pfizer or moderna here. The last few weeks has seen a spike in community infections mainly related to border control like airport, marine sectors etc. Several are front liners like airport immigration, cleaners, port workers who are already inoculated whereby Most are mild cases but they are also symptomatic cases among them. The largest cluster though was found in a hospital where inoculated doctors and nurses are among the infected. There has also been a couple of deaths from the hospital cluster. A number of them are found carrying the Indian variant but there are also others carrying the Brazilian and south African ones. It seems the new variants are much better at transmission this time. The breakthrough cases are of concern and we can only hope the booster shots currently trialed will be here soon.

Chiang Mai University has closed down its field hospital, after all the patients, who were mostly students and university personnel, were discharged from the facility following treatment.

Professor Dr. Bannakit Lojanapiwat, dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the university, said that the field hospital, which was a converted dormitory for female students, had the capacity to accommodate 300 patients.

Opened on April 10th, the field hospital was intended to treat students and university personnel infected with the virus, to ease the workload at the provincial field hospital. It was staffed by about 100 medics from the university, who were mobilized to look after the infected around the clock.

I will feel better when lower numbers are posted mid week.

It continually amazes me that Thailand wants to open borders to tourists when their health care is already crumbling.

Seriously, it's not going to happen.

so far so good, 399 deaths out of 66 million in 17 months

while Flu virus kills more than 4,00 each year, (12 months)

So far higher chance for all the oldies on here to die from the flu virus, than the covid

You don’t seem to be able to grasp the consequences of an epidemic. Thailand has been fortunate in slowing down the infection rate. But, if the virus gets out of control, the death rate would far exceed deaths from the flu.

Remember, in the year 1372, there were people in Europe saying “the Black Death, what’s the big deal? It’s only killed 10,000 people....” before it wiped out a third of the population of Europe.
