Petrol Station Worker Killed After Riding Motorcycle Against Traffic and Crashing into Lorry

A 24-year-old petrol station employee was killed on 8 April, in a horrific road collision after riding his motorcycle against traffic and crashing head-on into a six-wheeled refrigerated lorry. The incident occurred on the Napru–Benjama Road in the Na San sub-district of Phra Phrom District, Nakhon Si Thammarat. Police Colonel Sangob Chansingh, Superintendent of Phra Phrom Police Station, along with medical personnel from Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital and rescue workers from the Tai Tek Siang Tung Foundation, were dispatched to the scene following reports of a fatal crash. Upon arrival, responders found a white Hino refrigerated lorry registered in Nakhon Si Thammarat with damage to the left front side. Lodged beneath the front wheel was a severely damaged black Honda motorcycle, also bearing local registration plates. Approximately 100 metres away in a grassy area, the body of Mr. Songchai, aged 24, was discovered. He had sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial investigations revealed that Mr. Songchai had been riding his motorcycle against the flow of traffic on the side of the road, reportedly in a hurry to get to work. The lorry, which was carrying a cargo of ice, was travelling at normal speed in the correct lane when the collision occurred. The impact flung Mr. Songchai into the roadside brush, while his motorcycle remained jammed under the front of the lorry, dragged for about 100 metres. The lorry driver, Mr. Mongkol, was still in shock when giving his statement. He claimed that the motorcycle appeared suddenly, travelling in the wrong direction at high speed and veering off the shoulder directly into his path. “Usually if someone is going against traffic, they stay on the shoulder. But this motorcycle swerved onto the main road and came straight at me like he meant to hit me,” said Mr. Mongkol. “The nearest U-turn is two kilometres away, so I don’t understand why he was coming from that direction.” Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area and collecting further witness testimonies to determine the precise cause of the incident. Investigators remain puzzled as to why the deceased was riding so recklessly and against traffic, especially when the nearest legal U-turn was within reach. After the autopsy is completed, police will coordinate with the victim’s family to arrange for the body to be returned. -- 2025-04-09 -

Jealous Husband Beats Man to Death with Plank After Finding Wife at Ex-Husband’s House

A man has been arrested after violently killing an older friend with a wooden plank in a fit of jealous rage, following a domestic dispute that led his wife to seek shelter at her former husband’s home. At around 23:30 on 7 April, police from Nong Bua Rawe Station in Chaiyaphum province were alerted to a murder at a shelter next to house number 131 in Moo 3, Khok Sa-at Subdistrict, Nong Bua Rawe District. Officers, along with medical personnel from Nong Bua Rawe Hospital and rescue workers from the Sawang Khunatham Foundation, rushed to the scene. They found the body of 63-year-old Mr. Noi, a local man from Sompoi Subdistrict, lying in a pool of blood. He had suffered massive head trauma, with visible brain matter at the scene. He was pronounced dead, and his body was taken for further examination at Chaiyaphum Hospital. Police were initially searching for the homeowner, Mr. Prasopchok, 53, but were instead met by his ex-wife, Ms. Yupin, 43. She told officers that she had had a quarrel with her current husband, Mr. Prakob, 55, earlier that day and left their home to seek help from a close friend, asking to be taken back to her former husband’s house. Mr. Prakob allegedly followed her and, upon discovering Mr. Noi resting in a hammock at the property, flew into a jealous rage. He reportedly grabbed a thick wooden plank and a bamboo stick found nearby and began striking Mr. Noi repeatedly until he died at the scene. Following the attack, Mr. Prakob calmly returned home on his motorbike, where he waited for police and surrendered without resistance. He was taken to Nong Bua Rawe Police Station and charged with murder. During police questioning, Mr. Prakob, expressionless, claimed he was driven by jealousy and admitted he had no prior conflict with the victim, with whom he had even drunk alcohol in the past. He said he wasn’t sure whether the victim had romantic intentions toward his wife. He also confessed to acting alone and striking the victim five to six times while the latter was lying defenseless in the hammock. He described the murder as an impulsive act brought on by a fit of jealousy, not something he had planned. “If you hit a snake, you have to break its back,” he said chillingly, before apologising to the victim’s family. Ms. Yupin, tearful and remorseful, also apologised to the victim’s family. She said she never imagined that asking Mr. Noi to take her to her ex-husband’s home would result in his death. Suffering from poor health and almost completely blind, she said she was too afraid to intervene and ran to get help, but it was too late. She expressed her wish to attend the funeral if someone could accompany her. In a final development, Ms. Yupin’s ex-husband, Mr. Prasopchok, later arrived to take her back into his home, where she had previously lived. -- 2025-04-09 -
