Naturalization Process to obtain British Passport

I'm going to precis this rather than long winded post for now

 

I have a son born to a Thai national in 2005 within Thailand before the "watershed" right to automatic British Passports. He was born outside of marriage (and we never have been)...I am Britiish

 

Now I contacted one of the well known Visa agents in Thailand and they referred us to the naturallization process that is required first prior to obtaining a British Passport. Now trying to get information is like getting blood out of a stone unless I want to pay £2,500 here in the UK at which point they're all ears

 

Now the screenshot attached is the bit that seems to make this incredibly difficult. He has never been to the UK let alone for 5 years. That was from UK Government website

 

Any thoughts as to what we're up against here ??

If you're named as his father on his birth certificate, why don't you tell him to apply for a British passport here?

Because he has to go through a naturalization process first....He is not entitled to an automatic British Passport because born before the watershed 2007 year to unmarried parents outside of the UK.....

Contrary to what so many wrongly believe just because he has a British father he is not automatically entitled to one. They are post 2007 but not before when the parents were unmarried and the child born overseas

 

If we had been married in 2005 he would have automatic right to the British Passport

OP, the passage you quote in your first post applies to those who are seeking naturalisation by virtue (mostly) of having had Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK. It doesn't apply to your son, who needs to register as a British Citizen. I think this is the relevant government advice for your situation:-

Apologies for long delay in response...

Correct I was never married to the mother of our son

 

Am surprised at the lack of responses on the thread. Normally TV posters are all over this type of subject.

Again apologies for late response.

I'm going to have shell out the money to an advisor. This is so complicated in the interim I have "enquired" to three "specialists" lol who have all told me 3 different scenario and naturally wont go any further without a fee

I've had these conversations in 2009 an 2012 with the British Embassy who on both occasions referred me back to the identical passage of text as in OP screenshot

I can normally "work the problem" on virtually anything but am struggling with this one.

Sorry I can't give you specifics as it was a long time ago, are you in Thailand or UK. My son was born 2003 in Thailand, his mam and me were  married 2008, as soon as he was born I applied for naturalization. I went to the Citizens Advice Bureau, they printed out the form and helped me fill them in, quick and easy process, got his certificate back in a couple of weeks. Maybe they've made it more difficult but was a lot easier than getting his first passport.

I know of cases of children being born to unmarried parents prior to 2007.

 

Apply for the passport. No need for anything else.

My daughter was born 2002. I married her mother in 2005.

 

Never have applied for anything other than passport. Not even bothered to register her at British Embassy BKK. Passport obtained. Daughter now living in UK. Never had any problems.
