Somtamnication
Shocking but not surprising. Multiply the prison covid numbers by how many family members visited them, exchanged bags of goodies, etc etc. We are heading to another lockdown. 2
Popular Post Marvin Hagler
I still see an awful lot of Thai people on various Facebook pages out and about and enjoying themselves with no masks. Many restaraunts in Rayong appear to be open as usual judging by their Facebook pages with people dining in as normal. People are completely free to travel around without any checks or hindrance and shopping makes are still open as usual. There really are no measure in place to stop this spread as far as I can see from physical evidence available all over Facebook. 3

DirtyHarry55
Been expecting this why did it take so long???!!! It's been in the news since over a week that most protest leaders tested positive for COVID19 in Prison so I guess they couldn't keep the lid on it any longer. Or was it already reported on TV about protest leaders getting COVID19 last week I missed it?? Edited May 13, 2021 by DirtyHarry55

TallGuyJohninBKK
These rolling seven-day average charts for COVID cases and deaths in Thailand since April 1 are going to get distorted in the coming days by the huge new cases announcement today by the government. But here they are anyway, as of the latest May 11 update that preceded today's announcement: https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus/country/thailand?country=~THA#what-is-the-daily-number-of-confirmed-cases Edited May 13, 2021 by TallGuyJohninBKK

I'm not doubting that 2,835 prison inmates have tested positive for COVID. But I am doubting that they all tested positive in the past 24 hours or anything close to that timeframe. The number is being driven by the fact that Thai corrections officials "announced" that total yesterday officially, meaning it now needed to be included in today's official update. But in all likelihood, that accumulation of COVID cases in the prisons has been building for some time. Yet those cases are all getting piled into today's one day total. Which begs the question of when were the positive tested inmates moved to the field hospital?Yesterday,or have they been holding back that info too? TallGuyJohninBKK
Sinovac is safe despite not being listed by WHO, FDA insists The Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine is safe to use despite not being listed on the World Health Organisation’s Emergency Use Listing (EUL), said Food and Drug Administration (FDA) secretary-general Dr Phaisan Dankhum. “There have been questions regarding the safety of the Sinovac vaccine, that it is not on the WHO's EUL,” he said. “The EUL procedure is used in the Covax project and could be applied in countries where the vaccine registration and administration system is not yet complete. This does not mean that Sinovac has failed the qualification process, since the registration of vaccines in each country does not necessarily have to refer to the WHO listing,” Phaisan said. Earlier in this COVID wave, Thai Immigration was running their own off-site field hospital in BKK and had moved from IDC a large number of COVID positive detainees from there. They were kept at the field hospital for some time, before finally being returned to IDC. Ahh... here we go... seems the IDC outbreak was back in March, and the Immigration field hospital used at the time recently has been converted into general use.... May 3 post here: "Thailand's Immigration Bureau chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang visited premises in Bangkok that had been used to house migrant detainees after Covid-19 outbreaks in detention centers in the capital. All these have now been transferred after recovering and will be deported. The detainees were hundreds of illegals who were in the process of being deported before the clusters came to light in March, reported Naew Na. The premises will now reopen as a field hospital for police with Covid and members of the general public who have tested positive. https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1215806-immigration-field-hospital-set-to-house-covid-19-patients-among-police-and-general-public-from-wednesday/ And earlier from March 18: Seventy seven foreigners test positive for Covid at Immigration detention centre Thailand's immigration chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang admitted yesterday that 77 foreign migrants - mostly illegals from Myanmar - had tested positive in detention facilities in Bangkok. The detainees were mostly being held in Bang Khen though print media mentioned Laksi and Don Muang. Investigations are also taking place at the Suan Phlu detention center where the IB has its HQ.Immigration facilities for detainees are notorious for holding illegal immigrants in small, packed cells notes Thaivisa. https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1210239-seventy-seven-foreigners-test-positive-for-covid-at-immigration-detention-centre/ The COVID case reporting from March 2021 shows a spike that could well reflect the addition of the IDC cases at that time: Weblink:
Popular Post sapson
Where you test you will find why does anyone expect any different? Thailand doesnt have a miraculous immunity to Covid. Only the total negligent lack of testing over the last year created an absurd illusion of a virtually covid free Thailand that some actually believed.........including numb nuts and his gang running ruining the country. 5 2

Tropposurfer
Vaccines vaccines and vaccinate ... got to get to that sweetspot of 70% + ... everyone ... eventually, so these damned mutations can be starved of hosts. Plz the gods the govt get this together FAST before this thing goes south. We all know what a devastating thing this ‘situation’ has been already for Thais, and so many others. We can all help this by using our falang privilege, paying the bucks out and getting vaccinated so we can share our yummy new antibodies with others and thereby make them immune too.

But it wasn’t until a year later that I realized just how bad, and how powerful and sinister those words were. A year later and we see the repercussions of those words with rising hate crimes against Asians in the United States. But it’s also not hard to understand why these senseless things happen. Racism and violence go hand in hand with language. Racist rhetoric has always been successful in laying the groundwork for the violence, oppression, and segregation in the world. 6

Popular Post mommysboy
Certainly, in the UK and some other countries, the actual infection rate was regarded as being far higher than official numbers which are only detected cases, by a multiple of 2-10 depending on whom who you believe. I think it can be assumed that Thailand has a big problem right now. It really should go in to strict lockdown right now.

In Oz they ask if you've got the slightest of symptoms get tested. Of course in Oz there are places (not hospitals) that do mass community testing.
