Phuket Sandbox starts on July 1: TAT

Wake up Phuket.

Just the ones who have a property in Phuket, a family, business or the desperate ones will come.

In Europe is the summer holiday.

Families won't come as kids over 12 just need a "negative vaccine test" and under 12's need nothing.

Which parent would risk that his child would get in trouble whilst on vacation in Thailand.

They must have at least 70% of locals vaccinated 2X.

They will harm themselves when people come and there is nothing on offer. Many hotels closed, bars, restaurants closed, massage shops closed.

Why would you travel for at least 11 hours with a family to see this and July/August is not the best time of the year.

They can promote whatever they want. There won't be a lot of people coming. Word goes around as well, how the Covid and vaccine situation is treated here.

I have a practical question about the sandbox.

Let’s say I fly into Phuket on international business class, along with my 65 kg baggage.

After a week, I want to fly to BKK with my 65 kg baggage. But there are no business class flights from Phuket to BKK. So how do I get my bags to BKK?

for the jokers here, I could fly Business Class HKT-SIN-BKK, but that would mean 14 days of quarantine upon arrival in BKK.

Yawn

So, despite being fully-vaccinated (with effective vaccines, not the Chinese sugar water), tourists must be tested on arrival.

Are they also still insisting on special visas, a COE, special insurance etc?

I presumed that, once the national vaccine certification schemes were up and running, being fully-vaccinated would be enough to allow you to travel like before the pandemic.

Surely that is the only way that Thailand will get started back on the road to mass tourism?

Since Thailand has extended the emergency decree up to 31st July, as of now, and my understanding COE will be required.

I thought this was about tourists?  They don't drag bags of junk along with them.

its not though is it ? on the face of it  provides a quicker possibly cheaper way for travellers expats and the like to enter avoiding bkk quarantine

Don't is the logical choice.  So you are bringing back a further 60 kg of baggage, exactly when will you be returning from the US after you return there in July ? The so called Phuket sandbox farce is scheduled to start in July which is when you say you are returning to the US. So who know when Phuket will actually be opened up to anybody.

I expect to return in mid-August.

out of curiosity, can i ask you what are you carrying around with you?

60 kg is a lot, particularly in a country where you can basically wear all

days a pair of flip-flops, a short and a t-shirt and all the usual stuff you

have to use for your daily life is pretty cheap here

I am moving from the US, and am emptying out a storage locker. I am bringing Ryobi power tools, solar power supplies including inverters, basically stuff that is hard to get in Thailand or is expensive.

Danderman123 - there is only a Baht 50 fee for each additional KG on a domestic airline - Example: Thai Smile. You get 20 KG. Plus your United Card will get you 20KG. So the additional 20 KG will cost Baht 1000. Very cheap compared to the USA where each bag is charged a fee

I expect to fly to BKK Premium Economy, which gets me 30 kg. Plus 20 kg for Star alliance Gold. So I should be okay.

if i remember correctly, the customs guys (Partcularly in BKK airport)

don't really care if it's used or new stuff.

They will probably ask you to show the bill receipt with the date of buying on it

i am not a specialist in the matter, but it seems even on the second hand stuff

they could put a tax if you can not prove you bought it few years ago

Better than leaving it in my locker in the USA indefinitely.

How many viruses will that plastic shield keep out?

The people telling us that tourism will be roaring back come July 1st don't have the IQ to wear effective PPE.  Well of course not.  They're are deluged with pictures of news anchors, entertainers, and Hi-So wearing plastic visors to protect them from inhaling viruses that are microns in sizes?

So much propaganda.  "Trust me.  I'm an expert!"  Burger.jpg.aa1aadb780f928e023cb8480c6056ebb.jpg
No thanks.  All that you are doing Governor Yuthasak Supasorn is virtue signaling in a mask that wouldn't stop a virus the size of a rock.

Every farang in Phuket who doesn't want to wear a mask should use one of these.  Completely ineffective but easier than trying to suck air through a piece of cloth.  And!  Now given the explicit endorsement of Governor Yuthasak Supasorn!

Well who knows what the situation will be then especially with the Thai and Indian variants seemingly popping up with no effective and organised mass vaccination scheme to date

Chances are more than any of the 10 baht masks the foreigners wear.

Eyes protected, nose and mouth protected, as i don't think a virus can penetrate a hard plastic shield, the same way it goes through a mm thin cotton or fibre cloth.

If you want to argue that the virus can enter under and by the sides of the shield, you think your cloth mask has no gaps?
