PHUKET: Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew has called on all sectors of the community to prepare for what he calls “a mission to revive Phuket, to be healthy and bright, ready to welcome the July 1 opening of Phuket under the Phuket Tourism Sandbox plan.

Speaking at Phuket Provincial Hall yesterday (May 28), Governor Narong stressed that all officials are to ready themselves, their offices and their areas for the reopening.

Present to receive the message were heads of government services on the island, military representatives, leading police commanders, leaders of local government organisations (OrBorTor and municipalities) and officers from a host of other agencies.

I am still not so sure this is a wise idea.

Ready??? Time for the Gov to drive around little bit on Phuket.

Patong looks like after a airstrike.

Beach road is ready as a off road test track lol.

There is absolutely no sign af any smaller businesses preparing to open on 1st July and with the expected trickle of arrivals (who'll probably not be regular tourists) who can blame them?

1st October remains a more realistic date and we probably won't know the extent of businesses that'll never reopen until 2022.

Mission Impossible.

Well I am sure the Thais will unite. If they get this wrong it will be disastrous. If they get it right it will be the start of the road back to normality.

The Chinese, Russian and Indian guests will comply.

But the self entitled farangs? The Karen's?

They will moan and complain. Say the Thais and the rules are stupid. The rules are for other people, not them.

Rob Muir calls on all farangs to pull their heads in, to harden up and stop moaning about every minor little inconvenience and unite with the Thais to beat this English B117 third wave of this pandemic.

Hopefully by 1st October the trickle will start to grow. As for businesses that survived, no idea but I do know a number of small businesses that are ready and desperate to open. A few managed to operate and survive until the last alcohol ban, without the "regular tourists". Staff from those outlets are still in Phuket and want and need to work. Having said that, nobody I know is naiive enough to believe that it is mass tourism that is returning, just a trickle (hopefully!) as you say.

I guess he's had both his AZ jabs then?

Goodness gracious me are they in for a massive disappointment in July when nobody arrives at this Covid ravaged country, look at how much growth there has been in May imagine what the end of June will look like, bloody scary that's what.

I hope it will work. I will first fly 'home' , get properly vaccinated and then use the sandbox to come back without much hassle and rip off ASQ hotels.

Who is actually going to Thailand on holiday when there is an alcohol ban, no bars or restaurants open in the tourist areas????Patong is a ghost town????
