I have a few domain ideas (that according to GoDaddy are yet unclaimed), but my domain ideas are perhaps a bit politically incorrect.  I wouldn't want my name publicly linked to them.

So, if I proceed to purchase these domains, would my identity become easily accessible to anyone seeking to ascertain it?

On another note, is sedo.com the best place to buy-sell domains?

you should use a registrar in the "opposite" jurisdiction, e.g. if the website would be "politically incorrect" in USA - use a Russian registrar and vice-versa.

for "generic" privacy and somewhat "bulletproof" registrar - try njal.la or internetbs.net

"anyone" - no;

authorities - yes, if you use a common registrar such as godaddy.

I use porkbun to register domains, they offer free domain privacy as default.

Im not too sure what level of anonymity that provides, wether its bulletproof, I'm not too sure. For me, in the past when registering a domain through godaddy I was plagued with Indian website builders, but with porkbun I haven't received any, you can also see that your details remain private on your domain registration details.

I use a domain to access my home servers, you should also look towards proxying your web server through cloudflare.

Cheapest - I found porkbun to be the cheapest, although friends claim namecheap provide the cheapest, but I found that not to be the case, and you also pay for domain privacy. ( I stand corrected, thanks @Susco I will look into that because namecheap have some DNS settings built into unifi controller software which can make life easier )

I have a great number of domain names for (and to protect my businesses from cybersquatting). I have used various registrars over the years and one of them was Goxxxxy. They are bunch of sharks and will lure you in with cheap first year registration then rip you off rotten for future renewals. I moved all my domains from them last year and switched to Google Domains (saving 50%). It was extremely difficult and frustrating to switch from Goxxxxy as they make ity almost impossible to leave. Going with Google domains was easy and now over a year, their renewal fees have not increased and they have no hidden charges. As with most other registrars, Google also offer PRIVACY PROTECTION at no cost - certainly on .com names (From Google - "Helps protect your contact info and prevent spam. When privacy protection is on, a third party provides alternate contact info for your domain in the WHOIS directory at no extra cost.")

I do confirm that Godaddy is a b*tch company and are cybersquatters themselves — do not use them.

But your recommendation of using Google for "privacy protection" is simply LOL.

Domain privacy is free with Namecheap.

I have a few domains with them, and I find them reliable, cost effective and support is good.

Their premium DNS is also worth the money
