They can put the price up, but I won't be paying it and will hold them too the contract, price paid for goods to be received. don't ever book with thai airways 2

mikeh
Got my first jab at Phyathai 2 Hospital this afternoon. Loads of people waiting (hundreds) but the process was very well organized and went smoothly. I was out in 1-1/2 hours, including the 30-minute observation period after the vaccination. My next appointment was scheduled and I'm to receive the second jab in four weeks. Sometimes it's not a bad thing being older. In case anyone's interested, it was Sinovac: I don't see anything else on the horizon.

However, I was more alarmed/concerned to see them both 1.) muddling more about the potential price for the future shots after supposedly settling the price two different times before, and 2.) again admitting that they still don't as yet have a legal contract agreement for the Moderna vaccines in question. Talk is cheap, and often meaningless, in Thailand, as the Moderna and broader vaccines debacle is again proving. And after all this time, what do we hear today: "Dr Withoon said that negotiations with Zuellig Pharma were ongoing and a "Supply Agreement" would be ratified by attorneys in August." They've been talking about and to Moderna now for MANY months... Just how long should it take to actually execute a real supply agreement that allows for the setting of real, concrete prices and delivery dates? If you could get rid of the GPO and all the other leaches it should only take a couple of weeks for the agreement and perhaps another 5 years to regain the trust. 1

worldview
If my company employed attorneys that took over 6 months to prepare a supply agreement, we would fire them - Zuellig is an experienced pharma company and the private hospitals have been negotiating with the US pharma companies since before year-end - there is no way it takes this long to secure additional supplies of vaccines - as usual, the government thinks that people are stupid and cannot see thru the government's duplicity - and we all know who benefits from this 'supply' shortage - what a farce!

But here, with his "whatever will be, will be" attitude, things will continue, and things will get progressively worse. Nothing short of shambolic by this unelected regime. Now I cannot be certain if the UK is a "normal country" in your own assessment of normal countries, but having witnessed first hand in the UK the debacle of what are covid rules n regs which are still ongoing and regular massaged to accommodate the privileged (UEFA 2.5K VIPS as an example), complete mess of PPE purchase and distribution in the early days and a Health Minister who has been labelled "hopeless" by the PM in recently released private whatsapp msgs, who must be made of tungsten, cos he still stands loud n proud and not in the least bit accountable...though if you look through the history of anyone in public service in the UK very view are held accountable for the complete mess of things they have made in the past.... after all, it's only tax payers money and there's plenty more taxes to be paid...the Vax rollout has been a success so he does get some brownie points, more by luck then planning, I would hazard a guess that if AZ/Oxford hadn't been developed in the UK and we had to rely on one of the other developed Vax's to buy and deploy, it would have been a much tougher gig...

Even the EU stopped a delivery of AZ from being exported to Australia which was ordered without a problem, because the EU wanted it for themselves. Maybe, just maybe it is not all the fault of the Thai Government maybe some of the fault lies with the big pharma companies and the countries that their head office is in. Also maybe some of these pharm companies just cannot meet the demand for their products.

herfiehandbag
8 hours ago, DirtyHarry55 said: Starting to kinda get the feeling they're not in a rush to get rid of the virus. Well there is the argument that, for an unpopular autocratic government, beholden to a very small coterie of the extremely wealthy, who are effectively not directly affected by the virus (already vaccinated, no doubt with the best available, and living a sheltered life in which they do not interact with the common herd); a government with a somewhat (extremely) dubious electoral credibility, then the pandemic may have certain political advantages. it justifies an indefinite state of emergency(S of E), largely freeing them from any parliamentary or judicial oversight. Whilst they have managed to create a remarkably compliant parliament that may not always be so. The S of E however will considerably simplify the task of manufacturing the conditions which will enable them to manufacture a "win" in the elections which are becoming visible on the horizon. The now defunct narrative of a shiny knight on a white charger riding to the rescue of the nation (in the shape of Siam Bioscience producing more vaccine than the country, and indeed South East Asia could use) has failed. We will likely never know why, but it is not unreasonable to assume ineptitude and incompetence played a part. They may well have been calculating that if it had worked then an electoral "bounce" would have kept them in power. Now they will have to work at it. The S of E will help there. The large and noisy demonstrations in Bangkok in recent months show how much they have alienated the younger middle class vote, already lost at the last election, their reaction to the protests will have just confirmed that. Arresting a young female protest leader and banging her up on trumped up charges, where she caught Covid 19 in prison, was not one of their brighter moves! The S of E will help keep that problem (youth dissatisfaction) under wraps - perhaps! The rural peasantry, both on the farms and in the shape of their cash earning and remitting youth have been economically ruined by their inchoate restriction regimes, driven to a large extent by perceived profit opportunities for their wealthy sponsors. That community was of course, always a lost cause electorally, but they will need the S of E to keep a lid on their anger - perhaps! Having got themselves into all kinds of messes, and with a possible electoral reckoning coming into view, then yes, it is quite possible that the presence of the virus, and its attendant S of E may very well be seen as a godsend by some.
