Popular Post webfact
Picture: 77kaoded There are virtually no tourists to speak of in Thailand but that has not stopped some of the beaches in the country being clogged with trash. It appears that it's not the tourists that are the problem - the trash comes from elsewhere and is blown up on the beaches. A case in point reported on by 77kaoded was at the famed Phi Phi Island in Krabi where the beach was thick with trash. A local man who runs a convenience store on the island took matters into his own hands with his family to do what he could to clear up the mess. Phumithat Patchim was praised for his efforts online after a video was posted. 10pmSUN.mp4 "I collect they throw" he told the media. "That's the difference between us. "I'm worried my little one won't have a nice beach to play on". The monsoon had blown in the trash said the media. Picture: 77 kaoded Meanwhile there were reports earlier in the week of tarballs in Phuket - that would be a very unpleasant greeting for the much vaunted start of foreign tourism to the holiday island come next Thursday, July 1st. And a Thaivisa reporter went to Bang Saen beach this week. There were few tourists but lots of trash, especially plastic in the water. "Swimming close to the shore with my family I was constantly fishing out plastic bags," said our reporter. "It was clear this was not trash that came from the visitors but that which had been blown in from the sea. "How it got there is anyone's guess. Maybe from ships and maybe from people in the towns and on waterways leading to the sea who just thrown their trash anywhere". News organisations like Sky in the UK have reported on the horrendous pollution especially by plastic in the world's oceans. While some countries are responsible for their own problems many are not because great swathes of waste crosses the sea and is deposited in places where strict measures are in place to stop littering. Thailand is acknowledged to be responsible for many of its environmental woes but perhaps not all. Certainly blaming tourists for the current state of some beaches looks misplaced. The wider community must take responsibility for their actions in damaging the environment, notes Thaivisa. -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2021-06-26 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates 3 2 1

For instance check the packaging for the language printed on it to see what country it came from. My guess it printed in Thai but that's just a guess. 24 2 1

harada
There used to be a lot of this stuff on Patong after a big blow, I think most of it came from the fishing boats that you could see on the horizon every night, you’d need heavy hand and foot protection when cleaning it up, it was full of used syringes. ???? Most rubbish in the sea enters it via the rivers and Asia has 6 of the 10 most polluting rivers in the world. So no surprise that it has the most polluted beaches.

The big western lines are very much geared up not to pollute.....it becomes a big selling point for them......and they have to comply with various laws. I imagine cargo ships....obv's much less waste......dump everything straight into the sea. Edited June 26, 2021 by Surelynot

Popular Post lopburi3
Quote the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting lockdown has led to a huge rise in the country's plastic waste. According to the Thailand Environment Institute (TEI), the average amount of plastic waste went from 2,120 tons per day in 2019 to approximately 3,440 tons per day between January and April 2020. http://www.tei.or.th/en/highlight_detail.php?event_id=663 Home food delivery comes at a cost.

It depresses me when I see a dirty beach, so I sometimes fill a carrier bag or two up with trash that I find. Done this as far south as Chumphon and various spots all the way around the Gulf of Thailand to Koh Chang. I was particularly OCD at one resort in Koh Chang and filled up 4 cement bags with junk.???? Based on my less than scientific analysis, I estimate the rubbish in the Gulf is 90%+ in Thai script. 4

wensiensheng
I walked on Kata beach this morning. The southern half had more trash than the average tourist would be comfortable with and there was a line of tarballs that you had to be careful of constantly. The northern half was pretty clear of both, the current sweeps stuff to the southern half.

For those who don't know, Bang Saen is a beach mostly visited by Thais, a popular 1-day trip holiday beach among Thai families. Not saying Thais are throwing around garbage everywhere they go... well, actually that IS what I'm saying... Thailand is literally one massive landfill.

There is just no cure for stupid. Those will probably be bottles from her collecting of recycleable waste that has no value. Some of the waste plastic has no value to these people, so they have to find a way of getting rid of it easily. So the throw it into Canals, onto Farmland, or even by the side of the Road, or set fire to it. I witness this practice so often where I live, and its mainly the Recycle Business from behind the corrugated sheet wall that is the culprit. 3
