Six Thai Provinces Welcome COVID-19 Infected Residents back, to Control Virus Spread

BANGKOK (NNT) - Six provinces in Thailand are welcoming back COVID-19 positive residents, after working in Greater Bangkok and other places, in an attempt to keep new infections at bay.

Lampang, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Phitsanuloke and Nakhon Si Thammarat have separately introduced a "no one left behind program", since construction worker dormitories in Greater Bangkok were ordered sealed for one month from June 28th.

These provinces’ schemes share the same goal of COVID-19 containment, by discouraging infected people, including construction workers, from sneaking back into their home provinces, thereby exacerbating the risk of spreading the coronavirus around the country.

The welcome-back project has been implemented after Bangkok hospitals reported a shortage of beds and after the camp closures in Bangkok and five surrounding provinces forced workers to rush back to their home provinces before enforcement began last Monday. Some workers have slipped back home since then.

These provinces’ schemes

They have some very interesting "schemes" here.

Preventing travel would have seemed a better alternative as opposed to dumb and dumber options, imho.

I live in P'lok. So now any Tom, Dick or Somchai can come here and spread the virus he was kicked out of Bangkok for having, and not taking it to his own province. No words can explain.

That would be better but that's not really down to the provinces to enforce. Given the situation as it is and assuming they are making sure these people who are returning are isolating maybe it's the best they could do in the circumstances.

To the migrants it was get locked in your camp or travel... I know what I would have done.

Nothing to do with dumb.

It's actually down to each village to protect themselves.
Our villages will report anyone from outside who shows up with the intention of staying.  Then it's quarantine or leave.  Those quarantined are monitored by village volunteers.
The central BKK government is totally ineffective and simply allows the spread to occur, maybe even help it along with copious amounts of hot-air.

It's difficult to know who is responsible to be honest but I used the province level as that's what's referenced in the OP but either way somebody has to step up and take responsibility due to the ineffectiveness of the government that you rightly mentioned.
