Thai authorities resist calls to vaccinate children

Daily News reported that two groups called Phraphol and Dek Pak Jaew had gone to the ministry of public health to demand children be vaccinated. The media called them a "mob".

Chief of the Infectious Disease department Dr Opas Kankawinpong said that vaccinating children was low priority because they generally do not have serious Covid-19 infection and rarely die.

He also reiterated that vaccine for children and young people must be registered as such and be fit for purpose and efficient.

He pointed out that there had been many cases of Pfizer and Moderna vaccine being unsuitable for children and as having caused problems with heart muscle especially in younger males.

Could have just stuck with the answer "We don't have enough vaccines for adults, never mind that".

Sure vaccinate the kids, but with what??? As long as the Government does not order vaccines for the adults, how can they ever vaccinate the kids?? O I forgot, maybe the kids of the MP's or Hi So.. the rest of the people has to wait and see if or when they will get vaccinated.

But, but dr. yong said sinovac was "safe" for children 3 YO and older.

All children should be Vaccinated asap.

This Delta Variant of Covid is known to infect the younger people within Communities.. something the other variants did not do so much.

There certainly seems to be an up tick in the number of younger people being infected now, and their will be little hope of the Kids returning to School with other Kids being Infected.

The UK is about to scrap the idea of sending all the kids in a class home if one is infected. Just testing the class and isolate any positive cases.

Before adults?? Who is most likely to die?
They cannot get a decent adult vaccination programme in place.

Why are they talking this <deleted>.

If they aren't going to vaccinate kids, and the school teachers are vaccinated, then the schools should reopen. I know my daughter's school (international) teachers are vaccinated. I hope she can return after summer break in late August.

That's not the tune they are singing in the West.  I wonder when they'll get the memo from their Western task-masters telling them to change course and vaccinate children first and to put a rush on it considering all the surplus vaccines floating around Thailand.

That's about the most refreshing thing I've heard in months.
He'll be excoriated.

Well this is the ultimate question... Who do you vaccinate first? Those most likely to die, or those most likely to spread?

It's a complex question who's answer probably relies on a number of variables such as amount of vaccines available, current lockdown rules, potential outside threats etc...

It's a decision I'm glad that I don't have to make... I'd like to leave it in the hands of those much more intelligent than me. Unfortunately the Thai government don't really qualify...

Malaysia will soon be vaccinating final year school students with Pfizer. The rationale is that they are entitled to face to face learning in their final year. Schools have been and will be closed for most of 2021 and online learning has been very difficult especially for the lower socio economic groups where families are forced to share one phone as they cannot afford laptops etc.

For children generally their vaccine time will come but not until 2022.

When I read this and think about the post here recently about letting schools open and how the TV members chewed me out for saying that I thought schools should not open any time soon, the only thing that comes to mind is that it has been lucky so far that the juvenile population has not been hit as hard. However, the fact that they are carriers and that not much attention is drawn to them worries me. Parents are in a rush to send their kids off to school... unprotected... and at risk of bringing home the virus by having been exposed to their schoolmates. Being a teacher myself, but not currently working, I would not want to risk my life for the greedy and selfish parents who want business as usual when obviously it is not.

I am just waiting in fear of the day where the variant starts to do to kids what it has been doing to adults and then I will unfortunately be in the 'I told you so bleachers'. I really am worried that the virus will mutate and start to affect the kids... and isn't it strange that we have had sci-fi movies warning us of things to come now we are on the verge of actually living it?
