Hua Hin trash problems: Locals near dumping ground report provincial authority to govt watchdog

Locals in the area of Klong Bang Nang Rom have reported the Prachuap Khiri Khan authority to the government's Damrongtham watchdog.

They are furious that 30 tons of trash a DAY is being dumped on land in their area and claim that local officials have been deceitful.

The issue is part of ongoing problems of what to do with Hua Hin's mountains of trash.

An arrangement to use an army area came to an end and the initial plan was to dump the rubbish at Khao Yoi in Phetchaburi province.

But this was halted after complaints were made to the office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission, reported Siam Rath.

The authorities then wanted to dump the waste on a 400 rai tract of land near the southern railway tracks some 500 meters from the Prachuap provincial district office. A plan that has not been finalised.

In the meantime they have been dumping in an area that former local official Daeng Kaewchingduang says is near or perhaps even in a protected wetlands and tourism area.

The mountain of trash with its run off is affecting fishermen and oyster farmers and now shrimp farmers have denied vehicular access over their land.

It appears that no proper contract has been signed hence the appeal to Damrongtham.

Locals have further claimed that Prachuap officials came to the area saying they were surveying to install a new road. In reality they were preparing for the dumping of Hua Hin city waste, it has been suggested.

Earlier ASEAN Now reported that trash was building up by the side of the road and people were concerned that the issue could have a knock-on effect for foreign tourism reopening later in the year.

Now Siam Rath were reporting that by dumping the trash in disputed land the authorities were only making things worse.

Perhaps some modern incinerators - there are more places than Hua Hin suffering from trash dump problems - that also produce electric power from "burning" the trash, are worth more for the safety of the nation's population than other items money are spend for...????(Thinking Face-emoji)
