Quarter-dose of Moderna COVID vaccine still rouses a big immune response

A little bit of coronavirus vaccine goes a long way towards generating lasting immunity.

Two jabs that each contained only one-quarter of the standard dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine gave rise to long-lasting protective antibodies and virus-fighting T cells, according to tests in nearly three dozen people1. The results hint at the possibility of administering fractional doses to stretch limited vaccine supplies and accelerate the global immunization effort.

Who believes

Something like this was to be expected if you have ever read the results of phase 3 clinical studies,  and the dosages they used. Same for BNT.

Unfortunately, they were not written in Chinese.

Effective dosages are supposed to be determined early on in the trial process aren't they?

Well, if you read the article you would learn that the higher dosage is  more effective. But given the scarcity of vaccines, more lives will be saved if lower dosages are used and 4 times as many people get treated.

No.

How could that be?

Effectiveness is measured in phase 3.

Phase 1 and 2 let you make educated guesses what might be a reasonable dosage,  so you start phase 3 with that (actually,  the mRNA phase 3 studies used several dosages and compared their effectiveness.  The results looked a lot as if a lower dose might have also worked.  But it hadn't been tested in the study so nobody knew)

Well Mr Placeholder, the results haven't been published yet-  have they??

Anyway, at first reading, this seems promising, but I do question as to why this would be considered, when there are enough to go 'round...

Does worry me though,  that if Luung gets hold of a few vials, he'll be putting a bit of Lao in 'em, so the go further.

a similar story was with the AZ. Half of the originally planned dose appeared to work stronger.

Also they are experiments of stretching the AZ up to 48 weeks. Might be good for some mutations, but not enough for delta.

There might be never ending story of acute shortage of all vax, as boosters might be needed every 6 months, so smaller doses make sense, to stimulate immune system often

Results hint that dose stretching could help to address the world’s acute vaccine shortage.

I love "hints".

Clicking your heels three times while saying "There's no vaccine for you"

rouses a big response.

Thai private hospital marketing campaign, Moderna, cheap at 4 times the price.

dr yoong said that if you look in the mirror, and say moderna three times, you get better immunity than from 2 sinovac jabs
