Some local Pattaya residents were not dismayed or upset by recent floods throughout the area yesterday, July 14th, 2021, as they took to the streets to catch fish who were washed directly onto local roads from nearby lakes and ponds.

A video of the local residents fishing is here, we also posted this as a separate video-only article earlier today.

The following is a video, without commentary, showing the aftermath of heavy storms just before noon yesterday in Pattaya, disrupting traffic and flooding local roads.

That's Thais for you. Ever the opportunists.

Hope they're not consuming these fish, because they also come up out of the street drain system, which also handles gray water drainage from houses and businesses.  Had it happen on my soi before, and we've got no ponds in the area.

I am pretty sure they will be......

Not catching them to release or be pets....... see a lot more Thais looking for fish these days in these hard times.

My Moo Bahn in Jomtien was flooded to about 750mm in the big floods about 8 years ago due to a creek breaking its banks.  Locals were fishing with everything from a full-on circular throwing net, to a kitchen sieve.  They caught some sizeable fish.  As the water receded the kids were chasing the tiddlers in the puddles that remained, and having a great time. I loaned my golf practice net to my Thai neighbour and was rewarded with a bucket load of decent fish.

Most impressive was the dude that seized an entire soi, built a small dam from pavers and sand bags (that were commandeered from the pavement outside the village) and just waited for the water to recede and caught some whoppers by hand - smart guy - minimal effort for maximum reward.  Equally impressive was that he gave most of the fish away and then replaced the pavers.

Never let a chance go by - not a bad motto for life.

Those fish have been dining on the finest sewage Thailand has to offer.  They are a delicacy. ????
