snoop1130
Workers clad in PPE gear wheel a patient with Covid-19 symptoms to be brought to hospital from a village in Pattani on July 19, 2021, as Thailand seeks to contain a surge in coronvirus cases. Tuwaedaniya MERINGING / AFP The rapidly spreading Delta variant of COVID-19 has already overtaken the Alpha variant as the dominant strain in Thailand, with Delta accounting for 62.6% of 3,340 samples examined by the Medical Sciences Department, compared to 34.1% of Alpha cases. The department’s director-general, Dr. Supakit Sirilak, told the media today (Monday) that, of Thailand’s 77 provinces, the Delta variant has been found in 71. He expressed concern that the surge of infections by the Delta variant, which is easily transmissible, also heightens the risk of virus mutations, citing last week’s discovery of seven cases who were simultaneously infected with the Delta and Alpha strains but, fortunately, the viruses have not yet mutated. Popular Post mark131v
mmmh, what is one able to say? I guess in a country where there had been a safe and efficient role out of vaccines, where the people in charge had done their jobs and homework this would be somewhat less of an issue Clearly not the case here so this could be the perfect storm, expect imminent announcement on the procurement of other vaccines at some later date and a big bang as the stable door bangs shut...

Tarteso
This is a sham. With 5.5% of the populace vaccinated after a year and a half of pandemic, it’s proven that the Government is managed by the old military with gold watches and Pinocchios. Not to defend in any way the govt's shameful conduct in respect to vaccines, but vaccines only became available in Dec of 2020. So it's more like 7 months, not 18. And they were in very scarce supply for the first few months. 2

You castigated the Thai govt by claiming that 18 months had gone by and vaccination levels had only reached 5.5%. Clearly that 18 month figure was misleading since vaccines only became available in Dec of 2020. I specifically said that the Thai govt. conduct in relation to vaccines was shameful. Stop trying to deflect from the fact that you made a misleading statement.
AlexRich
The India variant (Delta) appears to be the dominant strain around the world. Despite a large percentage vaccinated it’s been spreading fast in the UK. The Chinese vaccine does not appear to offer great protection from it, and that is bad news for Thailand. It may be that we will not see a return to something approaching normality for another 12-18 months. I’ve had two jabs of AstraZeneca with no after effects … and I think any danger from vaccination is remote in comparison with the dangers of contracting the virus. Rimmer
Posts denigrating and calling Chinese vaccines useless and referring to it with derogatory names have been removed. Whilst it may be less effective in certain cases ie Delta strain it is by no means useless. At the end of the day this is a government sponsored vaccine and the forum and or yourself can get in trouble for comments like this so stop it.

Its mutations help it dodge the immune system. Researchers are scrambling to figure out if it is more dangerous or transmissible than Delta. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/article/the-unusual-lambda-variant-is-rapidly-spreading-in-south-america-heres-what-we-know#:~:text=A coronavirus variant known as,countries%2C many in Latin America. unblocktheplanet
Point of curiosity. Is the only route of transmission for variants via infected patients from other places? Stargeezr
Is the lambda from Peru, or is it a combo Peru, Brazil virus? I wonder if it is as deadly as it is contagious? In the Greek alphabet Lambda is the 11 letter. Alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta, eta, theta, iota and kappa are ahead of it. I wonder what countries have those other Greek letters for their variant? Geezer

Any person that gets infected will spread a new variant. That is how viruses spread. When you get infected with the virus, it mutates ever so slightly and you pass it on. If there is no vaccine to slow the virus down, it will keep mutating to avoid being stopped. India is largely to blame. They are not vaccinating enough, and the virus just keeps mutating. If the Delta variant is found, it means someone that caught it in India brought it in. From there, they can spread the variant to others.
