July 27, 20214 yr Popular Post The sandbox concept was set up to allow both tourists and returning expats into Thailand for either a holiday or a means of accessing other parts of Thailand by expats . There are no longer provincial flights or buses to travel around Thailand so the scheme will lose most of the incoming expats . There may only be a handful of tourists because of quarantining back in their country of origin and also the expense of covid pcr testing . The majority of business would come from expats but because of C.O.E. document requirements ,application red tape and provincial travel restrictions there will be few if any who will make the trip to Thailand . The sandbox days will be short lived unless the powers that be make some changes to simplify the system and restart provincial flights . For a returning expat a re-entry permit , a double jab cert and pre flight covid test should suffice and be presented at your departure airport check in . It will not surprise me to see airline companies cancelling flights to Phuket in the near future because of the lack of customers .

The sandbox ( Phuket and Samui ) , was created due to the pressure on the government by desperate hotel owners . They thought , ' just open the borders and the hoards will come '. The success of that scheme is directly related to Thailands ( Phukets ) success of combating the spread of infections ... the growing number of infected people in Thailand should reduce the number of arriving foreigners . Who wants to go to a country that is facing a disaster now ?
July 29, 20214 yr In short YES ! I read yesterday that since the Samui Sandbox opened on July 15 there have been 35 arrivals it should be renamed “ The Fantasy Box “ I also read the Bangkok Air will shortly restart International Flights they must be getting desperate as it is well known that the Koh Samui flights were BKKs biggest revenue maybe it’s time they started to charge reasonable airfare’s
