Ear Infection?

Recommended Posts

I have a lot of liquid in the ear, well feels like it. When sticking a cotton bud in, it comes out dark brown.

I have had this since I started sleeping with earplugs in, due to noisy dogs.

I have oil but not sure if this will do any good.  Any recommendations?

I'm sorry for your noise problem, but it looks like the ear plugs are the problem. Maybe due to low quality.

Stop using them until this problem has cleared up, and maybe don't ever use them again.

Standard 'ear & eye drops' will clear most mild infections, but antibiotics might be needed.

Try to avoid putting anything in your ear, especially the little cotton bud things on sticks.

Dry your ears properly (thumb or finger in a towel) after every shower.

I'm not a doctor, but I've had more ear infections than I care to remember, but very few now I have learnt more about them.

When you're in the shower, turn the temperature of the water up.

Turn your head to one side so the hot water goes into your ear and alternate ears.

Do not put anything in your ears including cotton buds. They can push as much <deleted> down into your ear as it does bring out.

I had exactly the same problem and I'm quite sure that it was caused by using earplugs. Someone once said on here 'you should never put anything in your ear smaller than your elbow!'

Visits to various doctors proved fruitless, so I took to self remedies and the tip offered above, by @VocalNeal, using hydrogen peroxide, H202. I bought a self syringing kit from Lazada, fill it with a water/H202 solution and regularly flush my ears out with it whilst in the shower.

Normal service is gradually being resumed and the earplugs went in the bin.

This is the kit I use

Yeah, I bet it's the plugs.

Discontinue use at least for now and the problem should clear up. Maybe do the hot water shower thing.

I can't use earplugs or earbuds for exactly this reason, hence my love of bone-conduction headphones when outside (bonus you can hear the environment) and full over-ear cans for watching the cricket (block out the screeching from Madam's soaps).

Or just get a Turkey Baster bulb from the kitchen section at Big-C if in a hurry

My wife does stick a metal thing in them every now and then.

Thanks to all for the replies.

Ear specialists are hard to find in Thailand. I knew a good one in Udon Thani, but since moving to Sakon Nakhon I haven't been able to find one. Some Thais have their ears cleaned by the local hair dresser, but I'm a bit wary of that!

It's actually quite relaxing and good for the ears, I believe.

Interesting. It could be that we come here with our fixed ideas and notions about how things should be done and overlook the obvious. I do recall that Indian barbers were also the 'go to' people when you needed your ears cleaned.
