Sanook published a video of a policeman apparently shooting from the Din Daeng police station.

The chief of the station in downtown Bangkok said his men were only using rubber bullets to prevent further trouble.

He said he was preparing a defamation case against the poster who claimed it was a live round, reported Daily News later last night.

Sanook reported that Ruam Katanyu rescue foundation were called after a man was shot in the back of the head outside the police station about 8.30 pm.

It was not known if the two incidents were connected.

The Thai male was taken to Rathawithi Hospital where he was found to have no pulse.

He was revived later in the evening and had emergency surgery.

A 14 year old also suffered an injury to his right shoulder, they also reported without elaborating on what the injury was.

Protesters had orginally intended to go to the prime minister's residence but marched to government house instead and disbanded at 6 pm.

However violence flared at Din Daeng police station later in the evening where water cannon, rubber bullets and tear gas were deployed.

Din Daeng station chief Pol Col Ratthachai Sriwichai said that he was in the area of the police station and live rounds were not used.

His men only had rubber bullets and barricades to prevent an escalation of trouble.

He seemed to indicate that he had seen the video and thought that was a rubber bullet being fired.

Rubber bullets are not meant to be used for head shots ! They can be justs as fatal as real bullets when fired at someone's head.

It was all a misaiming.

A rubber “bullet” also referred to as a Baton round, some had a steel core.

International guidelines are to aim at the lower body.

Looks like the police are just poor shots?

Heading is wrong. How can anyone determine the direction of sound from filmed footage?

It's only partly wrong - it can't absolutely, unequivocally determine the direction of the sound but it does appear to show a weapon being fired from within the police station by someone in what appears to be a police uniform and then there is a sound consistent with the weapon being fired from that location.

I don't know enough about weapons to say if it's possible to tell what kind of firearm it was - whether it was one using live ammunition or a baton round.

BANGKOK (Reuters) - A Thai anti-government protester is in a coma with a bullet lodged in his head, a hospital said on Tuesday, as police denied use of live ammunition to disperse demonstrations against the country's prime minister.

A 20-year-old man was rushed to hospital on Monday with a gunshot wound to his neck and needed reviving, Bangkok's Ratchawithi hospital said in a statement.

He was now in a coma and an X-ray examination showed a bullet lodged close to his brain, it said.

At least six people were injured in clashes between the protesters and police on Monday https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/clashes-thailand-pressure-builds-pm-over-coronavirus-crisis-2021-08-16 near the residence of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, Bangkok's emergency service said.

It was the sixth time in the past 10 days that police used tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannon to disperse demonstrations, which have mounted against Prayuth over his handling of the country's COVID-19 epidemic.

Another demonstration was planned for later on Tuesday.

A 14-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound on the shoulder, said a voluntary paramedic working with the protesters.

Demonstrations have gained momentum in recent weeks as groups who sought Prayuth's removal last year have returned, drawing broader support from people angered by a worsening coronavirus situation.

Thailand has recorded over 948,000 coronavirus cases, the vast majority of those since April, and reported a record 239 deaths on Tuesday.

Police said they would investigate the violence, adding officers used non-lethal means to maintain law and order, because all forms of public gatherings were banned under coronavirus restrictions.

"The police did not use real guns," Bangkok police chief Pakapong Pongpetra told reporters.

Thirteen people were arrested on Monday. More than 150 protesters have been charged over demonstrations since July.

Baton rounds or rubber bullets if you will are supposed to be bounced off the road in front of the protestors so they come back up and hit the legs.

The whole point of them is to be non lethal.

Either the hospital is lying or mistaken or God forgive me even suggesting that the Police are lying!

But there's a man described as a demonstrator in a hospital,  in a coma with a bullet lodged near his brain.

No doubt this won't get much more coverage if it does I wouldn't be surprised if the almighty leader will brand it as fake news!

Not to mention poor at everything else to do with lawful enforcement of international standards of policing.
