I never get drugs from the hospital - complete rip off. Just get a prescription and take it to the nearest pharmacy for a fraction of the cost

Sorry I can not cite the source but I remember reading this past year that prices in Bangkok's leading private hospitals had increased by more than 100% in the past 10 years.

I told the miserable girl that I had CT scan before for 15,000bht, the bill shows they charged 13,000bht obviously trying it on, I'm just gobsmacked at the medicine charge!!

just been there... in for one thing and docs circling like sharks... spent one night and left w/4 appointment slips for follow ups w/docs who I think have no relevance to my issue...

one doc wanted to keep me a 2nd night to help me rehydrate    OR  you can go home and drink a lot of water... !!!!

It seems in some hospitals they have the policy: Do anything expensive until the patient complains.

I guess they told you something like: Now we will make a CT scan. And you could have asked if that is necessary and how much it cost.

Don't expect that anybody will come to you and say something like: We want to give you a CT scan. It's not really necessary and it cost 15k but maybe we see something and maybe that will help. Do you want that?

No, that won't happen!

Yes mate, but when you are in excruciating pain you just say yes hoping they have your best interest at heart.

You can always say no - doesn't matter where you are.

Yes I.know you can say NO, I was in big pain and scared, I had the girl pushing the clipboard at me saying "this price okay" I did say "no not okay, I.paid 15k before" that must of worked.

After all the tests they found nothing wrong, the Doctor then suggested "we will admit you for further tests" I said "no you just said there is nothing wrong with me" we paid and left, the problem has not returned so far.

Yes I understand, I did a full medical at a private hospital and was told I needed a heart bypass. They quoted 500k ++ for a basic operation.

I went to a government hospital and got a quadruple bypass for less than half the price.

They only have one interest at heart. Their bank balance!

You did not say what or where the pain was.

That sounds incredibly cheap.....is a CT scan the same as an MRI scan?

I paid a small fortune for the MRI.

Well, you are going to a top range hospital so it is going to be more expensive.

I went to a private hospital in Pattaya a few years back for abdominal pain which was diagnosed as Appendix or Gastric ulcer. (These two things are in different parts of the body). I refused to stay for more tests, went to a local Doctor who tapped on my belly and said 'Trapped Wind'. Gave me some simple meds, I farted a lot, and all was OK.

Must admit I have had trapped wind before, like you after x Ray he gave me medicine which resulted in me doing many huge farts which cured the problem, Doctor was great and at some hospital.
