Hello,

a business friend sent an international ACH transfer via Bangkok Bank New York to my local BBK account.

He sent it Wednesday morning.

So far it hasn't arrived yet.

Is this normal?

I believe that they stopped doing the ACH transfers from USA to Bangkok Bank many months ago. The transfer that was sent probably will not go through and will be returned to the sender.

Now it has to be sent another way, such as bank wire.

My business friend doesn't use Transferwise.

IAT ~ International ACH ~ is what I told him to do and I also gave him the BBK link.

So how long does the IAT transfer usually take to reach the local account?

Normally the same day the transfer is received in New York due to the time difference (afternoon/evening there and morning here). I get my SSA payments that way and receive them on the same day since the are paid the day before they are due here.

Edit: You could call or email New York about it. The number and email address is shown on the webpage I posted a link to.

Transfers from my german banks always are available on my BKK Bank account next day, if the transfer is done before 12:00 a.m.

The sender is figuring it out right now: There is a problem with his bank's accounting software.

The money was returned to his account.

Thanks for everyone's help and information.

Without understanding of the amount, and as WISE cannot be used, it may be easier to just split the international wire transfer fee?

Typically these are $50 max. So $25 each.

Sounds like he sent a regular ACH transfer and Bangkok Bank NY branch rejected it because it was not in International ACH format.  Very few banks in the U.S. use International ACH...and usually its only with business related accounts.
