Hi.

I am living in the U.S. Have 15,000 Baht @ Bangkok Bank in Pattaya. Account been open since 2019.

Receive this email (text) today regarding my Bangkok Bank Debit Card:

An annual fee of 300 baht or a special fee rate according to your entitlement for your debit card no. XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. will be collected from your bank account by 29/10/2021. Call 1333 for more information.

Is this a normal fee charged annually by Bangkok Bank bases on my  debit card entitlement?

Why wasn't I charged in 2020?

Has anyone else received this notice?

Thanks.

TC

I don't remember if the BKK bank ever gave a notice before but

Yes , its a annual fee! My fee was 200 bht !

Check your passbook entries for last year,

it's a regular fee. I refused their ATM card because of it, having been taken in the past.

I refused Kasikorn's . Years ago they wanted 500

so. I believe you go inside the bank to make withdrawals if no ATM card?

You can use your smartphone for cardless withdrawals if available at BB I'm not sure, can also use your bank book and passport in branch

I get charged 300 baht a year for the ATM card.  That is all I get charged so I don't know what the other fee is that some people are talking about.

I'm also set up for online banking, so even though I haven't been in Thailand for quite awhile I can go online and see the fee being taken out.

Not sure? Seems like you should have been charged?

Yes.

I pay 200 baht each year at BBL. Same-same at SCB.

But maybe the annual fee has gone up since I was last charged?

How does cardless withdrawal work, do we need to have mobile internet on our phone first?

Yrs, you do need an internet connection. You scan a QR code displayed on the ATM screen

The problem is that not everyone of us have mobile internet connection.

And a nice gain I learned from reading here: it's free of charge nationwide.

No more silly 15 baht "out of province" fee.

They still do, it's to keep the riff-raff out.

Yes, and also to prevent your card being hacked.

Had Bkk Bank card for over 10 years, plus UK bank and credit cards used here and many other countries. Never been hacked or had money stolen.

I received such an SMS this year, too, and I don't remember ever receiving one before. They've always charged the yearly debit card fee though, just without that friendly reminder.

I had an unauthorised debit made on my Bangkok Bank debit card a few weeks ago, the card had never been used and was in a draw at home, I did get a refund but I had to file a police report first.

I had a Natwest MasterCard some years ago, probably 18 years ago, and despite it being not being used for years previously, and at home in London, somebody used the account for a spending spree in South Korea, a country I’d never been to. A short phone call to Natwest and the debt was cleared and a new card issued.

I’m glad to hear that you and your accounts have never been hacked or had cash stolen, but plenty of others have.
