So with the Rapid tests how do other countries deal with these. For example the chart that @anchadian posts each day with cases/deaths etc from ASEAN countries how to compare. So today's chart shows Thailand 11,744 and Vietnam 6,957. Does Vietnam also not count it's Rapid test results. I'm aware that some of the Rapid tests for Thailand may be subsequently included. Popular Post ikke1959
It is good to see that the numbers are going down but I have my doubts... The prison infection are going very up and down and the same with the rapid tests. one day more than 5000 the next only 2500.. Prison the same one day 800 next day 200...Even the death cases I don't trust although every dead is one too much. They can change the cause of death very easily, heartfailure, kidney failure, short of breath or whatever.... I believe everything must look fine to reopen the country..The truth is not important Edited October 2, 2021 by ikke1959 2 1

buick
with indonesia posting a sub 100 death number (per a chart in this thread), that suggests we might see a 25 number here in thailand (adjusting for population) in the not too distant future. indonesia was peaking a couple weeks before thailand (mid august versus late august). not all death charts are the same but most of the charts for southeast asia look similar, indonesia, thailand, vietnam, and malaysia. philippines is an outlier, an odd pattern. but the drop off in the death numbers on the way down is typically as steep as the rise in deaths was so the fall can be surprisingly fast. hope we follow indonesia and see 25 in two weeks. That's a promising sign. it is a very promising sign for the world and how it learns to live with covid in the future, I see it needs to be taken when symptoms are in early stages so this is a medication that would need to be readily available quickly to patients for it to be useful. Fingers crossed Thailand actually makes the effort to investigate its potential and has the resources to get some for next year.

This is indeed a game changer development in the fight against covid. Vaccine hesitant folks most likely to take a pill than a jab. Heard Pfizer also developing similar anti viral pill. I am sure other big pharmaceuticals are also in their various stages of such development. Popular Post ThailandRyan
Looks like it is trending downward. Was out yesterday in Rama 9 mall at lunchtime and it was packed, but it was Friday. When when we popped into Icon Siam on Thursday night to pick up a new phone at True, my other one seemed to grow legs and walk away on its own, it appeared that the folks who set up shop on the lower level Thai food court etc. area had returned en-mass and were getting ready for a big weekend of mall goers. Each and everyone wore a button that said - Vaccinated. Seems that Bangkok is picking up as far as people returning from the outer provinces as well. Ran into some new international teachers that had arrived and just escaped from the 14 day ASQ's here in Bangkok and were getting ready as one said to return to teaching sometime this month he hoped. Looking at the graphs it is trending downward but also seems to be starting to create a trough, which I hope does not turn up-ward and start to climb again. Stay safe folks and keep vigilant and social distance as the crowds start to pick up.

Bkk Brian
Cooperation is the driving force in surviving the pandemic Volunteers have been playing a crucial role in keeping Thailand’s health system working and have helped save lives, admitted Assistant Secretary-General of National Health Security Office, Dr. Yupadee Sirisinsuk. She said that, when the COVID-19 outbreak was at its peak in July this year, the health service system in Thailand was close to collapse. The authorities decided they had to introduce a new model of care, home and community isolation (HI-CI). The volunteers, who had been helping vulnerable people long before that, also helped to close the gaps in the system. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/cooperation-is-the-driving-force-in-surviving-the-pandemic/

Bkk Brian
Some Koh Larn residents to get a third Covid-19 vaccine shot as booster prior to planned November “opening” The Pattaya City Mayor Sonthaya Khunplome told The Pattaya News earlier this week, “People on Koh Larn who have already get their first and second dose of a Sinovac vaccine from March to May will receive a third dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine. This is due to concerns about efficacy over time, as well as the severe importance of Koh Larn to the tourism economy as Pattaya plans to reopen to foreign vaccinated tourists in November.” TPN media notes that the planned “opening” is not yet official and still needs several levels of final approval. https://thepattayanews.com/2021/10/02/some-koh-larn-residents-to-get-a-third-covid-19-vaccine-shot-as-booster-prior-to-planned-november-opening/
Bkk Brian
Covid threat looms over Thailand's plans to open up to tourists Why is the Thai government proceeding so cautiously? The simple answer is vaccines and the limited number of ICU beds. Despite significantly ramping up its orders of vaccines, the government started late and is still a long way short of its official target of inoculating at least 70% of the population. By the end of September just over one quarter had received two doses, and many of those who received the less effective Sinovac vaccine are now having to get booster shots. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-58758310

With this push to reopen so many places on November 1st, to try and save the high season, they are proceeding at a reckless abandon IMO. Already the assumption is the outbreak is fully over, yet there are on average about 14,000 cases per Day throughout September. Yes, the Country does need to reopen. Of that fact we are all certain, but this opening is just a little too soon, and should be put back at least another Month or so to get the Vaccines into people. Tourists, are not going to travel to Thailand with its poor vaccination rate, with the thought of possibly picking up Covid again whist on Holiday, and being placed in a Covid Prison for the duration. Governments are also going to place barriers in the way of Thai Tourism. They certainly dont need people returning from a Jolly in LOS bringing back a Virus from Thailand, that due to very poor testing, could be a new Variant etc.
