webfact
By Thammarat Thadaphrom BANGKOK, 5 October 2021 (NNT) - The Cabinet has endorsed Thailand’s reception of the donated Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine from Iceland and the donated AstraZeneca vaccine from Germany. The 100,000 doses from Iceland and 346,100 doses from Germany are expected to be delivered within this month. Government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana announced after the Cabinet meeting that Iceland has expressed its intention to support Thailand by donating 100,000 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine. Meanwhile, the Federal Republic of Germany will be donating 346,100 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Thailand. The donations from Iceland and Germany are expected to be delivered by October 2021, when 400,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine are also slated to arrive from Hungary to fulfill an order previously placed by the Thai government. Thanakorn said the incoming vaccine doses will augment the efficacy of vaccine distribution nationally. The government spokesman added that the donations reflect progress made in negotiations to secure more vaccine doses for Thailand, as well as the good relations the country has with European nations. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-10-06 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

Are these donations taxed imports? Nothing must stand in the way of making an illegal baht.

Given that Iceland's population is only 366,000, a donation of 100,000 doses is very generous. Well done Iceland.

Popular Post Gandtee
All a bit sick when after the revelations in the Pandora's Papers reveal that there are quite a few Thai businessmen who could buy enough vaccines for the population ten times over.???? 4 1

Popular Post Khun Yogi
Why does this Govt have to accept vaccine donations?????? Don't they have enough money to buy the shots themselves or are they waiting for the new tourist tax to fill there coffers.???? and then buy. This country survives on greed alone.

Popular Post mtls2005
Interesting that with the in-country manufacturing of, we've been told, millions of vaccines, that 346,100 doses from Germany is even a thing? As with the 150,000 AZ donation/loan from Bhutan, and the 122,400 AZ donation from SIngapore, I guess every little bit helps. Good thing thailand didn't join COVAX, then decided to join COVAX, then said it wasn't a mistake NOT to join COVAX, then decided to go begging for vaccines. Shambolic, as always. 2

Popular Post DaveSamutP
So many donations from Western countries and Asian democracies like Japan. How many donations from their friends in China? No, China makes them pay and pay over the odds for vaccines of low efficacy AND asks for political leverage in exchange for the priviledge.

You are obviously a more positive-minded person than me, good for you. And here I was, thinking that first-world countries hoarded more vaccines than they could use (or in some cases are faced with stubborn citizens who don't want to vaccinated with a particular vaccine or at all), and donate them around the world when the expiration date approaches. Shame on me.
spidermike007
Do they not realize anything this "Cabinet" does or says completely lacks any credibility at this stage? When a failed administration says it approves something, means little to those of us who consider them a complete mess, and a disservice to the people. However, good on the nations that are stepping up, and making up for Thailand's abysmal vaccination planning failure. Just another in a long string of "we dropped the ball".

Scott Tracy
More <deleted> donations? What is wrong with this government? No shame? 3rd world underdeveloped country? No, it has its own Pharma businesses.. What are they doing? 100,000 and 346,100 doses are a spit in the ocean on what is needed. Give the doses to those countries who have no pharmacy industry, Shame the government here.

But whether they like it or not, what they say means little to the Thai people anymore, also.
